{"id":44671,"date":"2025-11-19T11:16:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-19T11:16:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/44671\/"},"modified":"2025-11-19T11:16:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-19T11:16:09","slug":"minnesota-couple-zach-zarembinski-isabelle-richard-engaged-in-same-hospital-they-were-treated-for-comas-as-teens","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/44671\/","title":{"rendered":"Minnesota couple Zach Zarembinski Isabelle Richard engaged in same hospital they were treated for comas as teens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A happy couple who first met seven years ago when they both awoke from comas got engaged inside the same hospital where they were treated as teenagers.<\/p>\n<p>Zach Zarembinski\u00a0popped the question to Isabelle Richard inside Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, where the couple were patients after their injuries in 2018, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kare11.com\/article\/news\/local\/land-of-10000-stories\/teens-who-met-in-hospital-after-emerging-from-comas-getting-married\/89-64b32db5-42cc-4c08-af2d-fa5c2fbe7155\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to Kare11.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWill you marry me?\u201d he asked in front of dozens of hospital staffers and relatives, according to the podcast <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p7hCRGXbezA&amp;t=59s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">posted to YouTube.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Zach Zarembinski\u00a0popped the question to Isabelle Richard inside Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota, where the couple were patients after their injuries in 2018. @zachzarembin\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes,\u201d Richard responded as the white backdrop they were sitting in front of came down to reveal a massive heart made out of flowers surrounding the words \u201cWill you marry me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zarembinski tricked his future bride into returning to the hospital, claiming he got permission to record an episode of their podcast \u201cHope in Healing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a very honor to be here. We are allowed to record this podcast in Regions Hospital where all the nurses and doctors took care of us and it\u2019s just bringing tears to my eye to be able to come here and see this,\u201d Zarembinski said.<\/p>\n<p>Before proposing, Zarembinski got his now-fianc\u00e9e to stand up as he pointed to the area where he first met Richard\u2019s family in November 2018 after he woke from his coma.<\/p>\n<p>The then-18-year-old suffered a brain bleed and collapsed on the sidelines of a high school football game on Oct. 28, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Zarembinski tricked his future bride into returning to the hospital, claiming he got permission to record an episode of their podcast \u201cHope in Healing.\u201d Hope in Healing Podcast \/ YouTube<\/p>\n<p>Before proposing, Zarembinski got his now-fianc\u00e9e to stand up as he pointed to the area where he first met Richard\u2019s family in November 2018 after he woke from his coma. Hope in Healing Podcast \/ YouTube<\/p>\n<p>He was rushed to Regions Hospital and placed in a medically induced coma as doctors performed a craniotomy to remove the left side of his skull to allow his brain to swell, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mprnews.org\/story\/2018\/10\/28\/twin-cities-prep-football-player-medically-induced-coma-after-collapse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">MPRNews reported<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The senior lineman responded well to the surgery, was stabilized and woke up nine days later.<\/p>\n<p>Around the same time, 16-year-old Richard was on her way to work at a grocery store when she was involved in a car crash and suffered a massive head injury, Kare11 reported.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>She remained in a coma as news crews converged on the hospital for a press conference after Zarembinski woke up.<\/p>\n<p>Richard\u2019s mother, Esther Wilzbacher, spoke with Zarembinski and he told her that she was going to be alright.<\/p>\n<p>The 16-year-old woke up days later and eventually the two young patients met, talking for a few minutes and taking a picture, as Richard sat in her hospital bed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSaid a couple kind words to Isabelle and that was it for six years,\u201d Zarembinski said, according to the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The two teens were rushed to Regions Hospital, where they were in comas after suffering brain injuries. @zachzarembin\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>Besides the shared trauma, the two had from their hospital stints, there were \u201cpractical considerations\u201d for them to marry, as they both had parts of their skulls removed to relieve swelling. @zachzarembin\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>Wilzbacher and Zarembinski\u2019s mom, Tracy, remained in touch as their children recovered, only meeting up in 2024 for dinner between the two families.<\/p>\n<p>During the meal, Zarembinski asked Richard for her number and the two began dating.<\/p>\n<p>Besides the shared trauma, the two had from their hospital stints, there were \u201cpractical considerations\u201d for them to marry, as they both had parts of their skulls removed to relieve swelling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s opposite sides of our brain,\u201d Richard told Kare11. \u201cSo, it\u2019s kind of like we complement each other in that way.
