White House border czar Tom Homan<\/a> said Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to increase its immigration operations in New York City<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Homan railed against sanctuary city policies in an interview with Fox News\u2018s Bill Hemmer on Tuesday, saying if sanctuary city leaders don\u2019t assist federal immigration officers, they\u2019re \u201cgoing to flood the zone.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re going to be coming to New York City, we\u2019re already there now, I mean, teams are there now. But we\u2019re increasing enforcement presence in New York City again because they\u2019re a sanctuary city, we know we have an issue there with public safety threats,\u201d Homan said.<\/p>\n

Homan\u2019s comments come as President Donald Trump and New York Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani plan to meet before Mamdani is sworn in on Jan. 1. Trump told reporters<\/a> on Sunday that Mamdani \u201cwould like to come to Washington\u201d and that the Trump administration wants \u201cto see everything work out well for New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

Homan echoed that he is also \u201cwilling to meet with anybody\u201d regarding immigration-related topics.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s get together and work it together. We\u2019d much rather work with these sanctuary cities than keep putting our agents at extreme risk going out in the community,\u201d Homan said. \u201cSo we welcome any conversation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Trump administration has announced several immigration crackdown operations in specific cities throughout 2025. Illegal immigration arrest operations have hit places such as<\/a> Chicago, for \u201cOperation Midway Blitz<\/a>,\u201d Charlotte, North Carolina, for \u201cOperation Charlotte\u2019s Web<\/a>,\u201d and most recently, according to the Associated Press<\/a>, Mississippi and Louisiana, for \u201cSwamp Sweep.\u201d<\/p>\n

Gov. Kathy Hochul (D-NY) warned the Trump administration against sending federal agents to New York, telling New York Public News Network that it would be bad for business.<\/p>\n

\u201cChaos and instability in our streets generated by federal actions \u2014 whether it\u2019s flooding the city with ICE, bringing the National Guard, or whatever he wants to do \u2014 is counterproductive for his economic objectives for our nation, as well as perhaps personal business interests,\u201d Hochul said.<\/p>\n

However, Homan emphasized that \u201cwe\u2019re going to do operations in New York City.\u201d He said he previously worked with Eric Adams, New York\u2019s current embattled mayor, to try to send ICE officers to Rikers Island prison, but the City Council nixed the plan.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they don\u2019t want to assist and they want to keep pushing back and impeding our efforts, then we\u2019re just going to send more teams there, we\u2019re going to flood the zone,\u201d Homan said.<\/p>\n
