NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch vowed to cops early Wednesday that she would be a \u201cfierce advocate\u201d for them and wouldn\u2019t be afraid to \u201cmince words\u201d \u2014 as she revealed plans to stay on the job under Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani<\/a>, The Post has learned.<\/p>\n

Tisch fired off a department-wide email explaining her decision to accept Mamdani\u2019s job retention offer<\/a> \u2014 despite admitting she doesn\u2019t always 100% agree with the socialist\u2019s far-left policies.<\/p>\n

In an apparent attempt to quell concerns about Mamdani\u2019s history\u00a0of anti-cop statements<\/a>,\u00a0Tisch insisted\u00a0she was confident she could still lead the department \u201chonorably going forward\u201d based on a spate of recent meetings she had with the mayor-elect before agreeing to stay on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted you \u2014 the men and women of the NYPD \u2014 to hear this directly from me first. Because the reason I have chosen to stay is you. I believe deeply in the nobility of your work, in what you do every day to keep this city safe, in your commitment, and in your sacrifice,\u201d Tisch said in the email.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow, do the Mayor-elect and I agree on everything? No, we don\u2019t. But in speaking with him, it\u2019s clear that we share broad and crucial priorities: the importance of public safety, the need to continue driving down crime, and the need to maintain stability and order across the department.\u201d<\/p>\n

The highly anticipated appointment fulfills Mamdani\u2019s campaign promise<\/a> to keep the respected 44-year-old police executive in the top role.<\/p>\n

In a bridge-building move that comes despite their profound political differences, Mamdani\u2019s team lauded the significant crime drop under her leadership \u2014 including record-low shootings so far this year.<\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s move\u00a0to retain Tisch\u00a0comes as the far-left candidate looks to ease concerns amid widespread fears that crime would skyrocket under his administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn those discussions, you can trust that I will be a fierce advocate for you and for this department. You know how I operate: I don\u2019t mince words. When I say something, I mean it. And that is not going to change.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year, we are having tremendous success fighting crime \u2014 shattering records across the board. It is extraordinary, and it is because of you. But we can never rest easy, and we can never accept the idea that our best days are behind us. We owe the people of New York City more. Let\u2019s meet that challenge together,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cI appreciate that the Mayor-elect wants a team with different points of view \u2013 a team where ideas and policies are debated on their merits,\u201d she said in the email. Michael Nigro<\/p>\n

\u00a0Police Benevolent Association\u00a0president Patrick Hendry quickly praised Tisch\u2019s vow.<\/p>\n

Tisch\u2019s\u00a0decision to inform officers before the official announcement dropped was\u00a0also\u00a0noted among the ranks, a police source said.<\/p>\n

\u201cVery classy to tell the rank and file first,\u201d the source said. \u201cShows the deep respect she has for the cops and the work they do.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement\u00a0announcing the appointment, Mamdani\u2019s team vowed to maintain a department where both \u201crank-and-file police officers and the communities they serve\u201d are safe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have admired her work cracking down on corruption in the upper echelons of the police department, driving down crime in New York City, and standing up for New Yorkers in the face of authoritarianism,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n
