A self-proclaimed imam speaking at a CUNY <\/a>City College interfaith event went into a Jew-hating tirade, urging Muslim students to leave in protest after complaining that a \u201cZionist\u201d was present.<\/p>\n The City University of New York said it is now investigating the shocking incident last week that targeted Ilya Bratman, an adjunct lecturer at Baruch College and the director of the Hillel Jewish campus organization.<\/p>\n Abdullah Mady went into a Jew-hating tirade during an interfaith event at CUNY City College. YouTube\/Abdullah Mady<\/p>\n \u201cI came here to this event not knowing I would be sitting next to a Zionist and this is something I am not going to accept,\u201d said the Islamic scholar Abdullah Mady, referring to Bratman, according to an audio recording obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n \u201cMy people are being killed right now in Gaza,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re a Muslim, out of strength and dignity, I ask you to exit this room immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n About 100 students in attendance took up the call and walked out, leaving about 20 Christian and Jewish students who remained in the room stunned, Bratman said.<\/p>\n Bratman is the director of the Hillel Jewish campus organization. hillelatbaruch.org<\/p>\n The remaining students were escorted out with the assistance of campus security to keep them safe while those who walked out in protest gathered outside, he said.<\/p>\n The dumbfounded moderator, student chaplain Joshua Medina, apologized to the students for the ugly protest, saying it was supposed to be a \u201crespectful\u201d discussion.<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately that didn\u2019t happen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n Poster for the CUNY interfaith workshop, which was held on Nov. 13, 2025. It\u2019s about the Jews.\u201d<\/p>\n The interfaith event was held on Nov. 13 in CCNY\u2019s main campus building and sponsored by the school, Bratman said.<\/p>\n Two participants in the event identified Mady as the speaker who blasted Bratman and urged Muslim students to walk out.<\/p>\n Bratman said he was targeted in a blatant and open display of antisemitism that left him scared. Instagram\/hillelatbaruch<\/p>\n Mady \u2014 an alum of City College, with a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology and working toward a bachelor\u2019s degree in translational medicine \u2014 was not immediately available for comment via a phone message and text.<\/p>\n Earlier in his speech, he spoke about sharia law and chopping off the fingers of thieves \u2014 the rich, not the poor.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m talking about the elite, the filthy rich, the ones that continue to steal from people as we speak today. Getty Images<\/p>\n A City College spokesman said the matter is under investigation.<\/p>\n \u201cThe City College of New York has zero tolerance for acts of hate or bigotry of any kind. We are investigating this incident and will promptly take all necessary and appropriate actions to address any such discrimination and remedy its effects,\u201d the spokesman said.<\/p>\n Complaints about antisemitism at CUNY campuses<\/a> have raged in recent years, fueled in party by anti-Israel protests over the war in Gaza \u2014 including at CCNY.<\/p>\n Mady has a bachelor\u2019s degree in psychology from CCNY.
