Interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan<\/a> suggested Wednesday that the Biden-appointed judge overseeing the criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey<\/a> violated judicial conduct rules by asking if she was a \u201cpuppet\u201d of President Trump<\/a>.<\/p>\n

District Judge Michael Nachmanoff asked Comey\u2019s defense lawyer if he thought Halligan, the prosecutor who brought the indictment against the former FBI boss<\/a>, was acting as a \u201cpuppet\u201d or \u201cstalking horse\u201d of the commander in chief, during a hearing in an Alexandria, Va., courtroom.<\/p>\n

\u201cPersonal attacks \u2014 like Judge Nachmanoff referring to me as a \u2018puppet\u2019 \u2014 don\u2019t change the facts or the law,\u201d Halligan exclusively told The Post.<\/p>\n

Interim US Attorney Lindsey Halligan suggested Wednesday that the Biden-appointed judge overseeing the criminal case against former FBI Director James Comey violated judicial conduct rules by asking if she was a \u201cpuppet\u201d of President Trump. AP<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Judicial Canons require judges to be \u2018patient, dignified, respectful, and courteous to litigants, jurors, witnesses, lawyers, and others with whom the judge deals in an official capacity\u2019 \u2026 and to \u2018act at all times in a manner that promotes public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the judiciary,\u2019\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of making false statements and obstruction of justice. REUTERS<\/p>\n

\u201cMy focus remains on the record and the law, and I will continue to fulfill my responsibilities with professionalism,\u201d Halligan added.<\/p>\n

Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Halligan at Trump\u2019s behest to serve as interim US attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia following the September resignation of Erik Siebert \u2013 whom the president had accused of deliberately refusing to charge Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James.<\/p>\n

Halligan secured the federal grand jury indictment against Comey six days after Seibert\u2019s resignation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In response to Nachmanoff, Comey\u2019s attorney, Michael Dreeben, declined to call Halligan a \u201cpuppet\u201d but argued the prosecutor \u201cdid what she was told,\u201d according to the\u00a0New York Times<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Assistant US Attorney N. Tyler Lemons insisted Halligan independently decided to bring charges against the former FBI director for allegedly lying to Congress and obstructing justice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMs. Halligan was not directed to seek this prosecution.
