{"id":48117,"date":"2025-11-22T00:59:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-22T00:59:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/48117\/"},"modified":"2025-11-22T00:59:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-22T00:59:16","slug":"mta-opens-new-train-car-testing-facility-in-brooklyn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/48117\/","title":{"rendered":"MTA opens new train car testing facility in Brooklyn"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NEW YORK (PIX11) \u2014 A new facility has opened to test new train cars.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The type of subway car has a lot to do with the quality of the commute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">A new testing and inspection facility has opened in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link \" href=\"https:\/\/pix11.com\/news\/local-news\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:More Local News;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\"> More Local News <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Car crews and MTA officials say it will streamline the process and save time when new cars are on track to be in service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">PIX11 News got a tour of the building. Parts of the structure were prefabricated to lower the final cost.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Before new trains run on the regular tracks, cars have to make a first stop for testing and inspections.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Car equipment crews are busy. Hundreds of new cars have arrived and 1500 more are on the way.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Joseph Scarangello is an assistant chief mechanical officer and says working inside allows for safer and better conditions around the clock.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cThe cars are our kids, and now we have a new house,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The new facility centralizes and speeds up the process, says NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/pix11-preferred-source-google-184248152.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:Make PIX11 your preferred news source on Google: Here\u2019s how;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> Make PIX11 your preferred news source on Google: Here\u2019s how <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cDifferent yards, different locations. Now all of that happens here in this facility\u00a0and saves huge time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Sunset Park facility is close to the waterfront and truck transport area. More will be arriving by barge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">NYC Councilmember Alexa Aviles represents the area and works to keep the waterfront active.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cGet more trucks off the road,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Older cars need more maintenance. MTA Chairman Janno Lieber talked about older trains with popular orange seats slowing down his commute.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">New cars are inspected and also put through a period of track testing before passenger service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
