Trump Praises Mamdani After White House MeetingAfter months of warning voters that Zohran Mamdani posed an existential threat to New York City, President Trump showered praise on the mayor-elect at the White House on Friday. Following an off-camera meeting, Trump said he felt \u201cvery confident\u201d that Mamdani would do a good job. \u201cI think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing the mayor of New York, and especially now, because I think you\u2019re at really a turning point one way or the other. It could go great, or it can go in a different direction. And I think you really have a chance to make it great. He\u2019s got views that are a little out there, but who knows? I mean, we\u2019re going to see what works or \u2014 he\u2019s going to change also. We all change. I change a lot. I think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually. And I\u2019ve been called much worse than a despot. So it\u2019s not, it\u2019s not that insulting.\u201d \u201cI appreciated the meeting with the president. And as he said, it was a productive meeting focused on a place of shared admiration and love, which is New York City.\u201d \u201cI\u2019ve spoken about \u2014\u201d \u201cThat\u2019s OK. You can just say \u2014\u201d \u201cOK. All right.\u201d \u201cIt\u2019s easier. It\u2019s easier than explaining it \u2014 I don\u2019t mind.\u201d \u201cGreat.\u201d \u201cI appreciate it.\u201d<\/p>\n
