STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A Staten Island woman who sold \u201ccopious amounts\u201d of cocaine is headed to prison.<\/p>\n
Stephanie Murphy, 45, of Bowen Street in Clifton, pleaded guilty Tuesday to second-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance in connection with an undercover investigation, which spanned four months in late 2024 and early 2025.<\/p>\n
In accepting the plea offer by the court, Murphy is scheduled to be sentenced to six years in prison and five years of post-release supervision. Justice Alexander B. Jeong adjourned the proceedings to Dec. 11 in state Supreme Court, St. George. <\/p>\n
A co-defendant in the case was sentenced on Sept. 22 to one day in jail and five years probation, court records indicate. <\/p>\n
District Attorney Michael E. McMahon issued a statement Tuesday, saying in part:<\/p>\n
\u201cBy selling copious amounts of cocaine to undercover officers on more than five occasions … Stephanie Murphy sought to profit off of the overdose epidemic.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThese shameless purveyors of poison will be held accountable in the courtroom, and I am proud to share that this defendant will spend the next six years behind bars.\u201d <\/p>\n
McMahon went on to thank members of the NYPD and Assistant District Attorney Volha Salavei for their work in pursuing a conviction in the case. <\/p>\n
Defense requesting reduced sentence<\/p>\n
Defense attorney Mario Gallucci said Tuesday that he\u2019s requesting a reduced sentence, based on his client allegedly being the victim of past domestic violence. <\/p>\n
Those experiences \u201cwarped her decision-making and created the conditions that led to this conduct,\u201d Gallucci said.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday\u2019s plea is not an admission of character, but a reflection of the trauma she has survived and her commitment to finally moving forward toward safety and stability,\u201d his statement continued.<\/p>\n
