President Trump hailed Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene\u2019s surprising resignation<\/a> announcement Friday as \u201cgreat news\u201d for America.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s great news for the country,\u201d Trump told ABC News during a brief phone call.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The president indicated that Greene (R-Ga.) did not share her plans with him ahead of her social media post announcing her intention to leave office on Jan. 5, 2026, and said he had no plans to speak with her.<\/p>\n

\u201cNah, it doesn\u2019t matter, you know? But I think it\u2019s great,\u201d Trump said. \u201cI think she should be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

The president offered further reaction early Saturday in a Truth Social post in which he slammed the Georgia congresswoman.<\/p>\n

\u201cMarjorie \u2018Traitor\u2019 Brown, because of PLUMMETING Poll Numbers, and not wanting to face a Primary Challenger with a strong Trump Endorsement (where she would have no chance of winning!), has decided to call it \u2018quits,\u2019 \u201d Trump wrote in a 6:45 a.m. post. <\/p>\n

\u201cHer relationship with the WORST Republican Congressman in decades, Tom Massie of Kentucky, also known as Rand Paul Jr. because he votes against the Republican Party (and really good legislation!), did not help her,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor some reason, primarily that I refused to return her never ending barrage of phone calls, Marjorie went BAD,\u201d Trump wrote, before adding, \u201cNevertheless, I will always appreciate Marjorie, and thank her for her service to our Country!\u201d<\/p>\n

Greene, who had been one of Trump\u2019s staunchest supporters, caught the president\u2019s ire after criticizing his administration\u2019s handling of documents related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein and breaking with the commander in chief on several policy issues.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last week, Trump withdrew his endorsement of Greene and called for congresswoman to face a primary challenge ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president signaled that he would endorse Greene\u2019s challenger.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,\u201d Greene said in her resignation letter.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s all so absurd and completely unserious,\u201d she continued. \u201cI refuse to be a \u2018battered wife\u2019 hoping it all goes away and gets better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Greene\u2019s departure will narrow the GOP\u2019s slim majority in the House, where 219 Republicans and 213 Democrats are currently seated.\u00a0<\/p>\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), whom Greene tried oust last year, did not have advanced knowledge of Greene\u2019s resignation announcement, a source told NBC News.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A House GOP aide described Greene\u2019s plans to resign to The Post as a \u201cvindictive\u201d move to deliberately \u201cf\u2014k\u201d over the majority.<\/p>\n

The White House and Johnson\u2019s office did not immediately respond to The Post\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"President Trump hailed Rep.
