I met with a man who wants to really wants to see New York be great again. And I can say again, because New York was great,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mamdani said he appreciated the meeting\u2019s focus on shared goals rather than disagreements.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think both President Trump and I, we are very clear about our positions and our views, and what I really appreciate about the president is the meeting that we had focused not on places of disagreement, which there are many, and also focused on the shared purpose that we have in serving New Yorkers,\u201d Mamdani said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The cordial tone marked a shift from their previous exchanges. Trump has called Mamdani a \u201ccommunist mayor\u201d and Mamdani had called Trump a \u201cfascist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The two men discussed public safety, affordability and economic security during their meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2025 Gray DC.
