{"id":49560,"date":"2025-11-23T20:18:07","date_gmt":"2025-11-23T20:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/49560\/"},"modified":"2025-11-23T20:18:07","modified_gmt":"2025-11-23T20:18:07","slug":"can-deutsche-bank-center-and-masa-return-to-former-glory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/49560\/","title":{"rendered":"Can Deutsche Bank Center and Masa return to former glory?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As restaurant lovers debate whether Masa will survive its\u00a0Michelin guide demotion from three stars to two, real estate-watchers are asking: Can the Deutsche Bank Center \u201cRestaurant Collection\u201d regain its past glory, which was based on its unique pair of three-star eateries?<\/p>\n<p>While other\u00a0dining venues\u00a0came and went at the shopping and dining mall inside the former Time\u00a0 Warner Center \u2014 V Steakhouse, Cafe Gray, Landmarc, A Voce,\u00a0Bluebird London and most recently steakhouse Porter House \u2014 the longevity of its three-star establishments on the fourth floor,\u00a0Masa and Thomas Keller\u2019s Per Se, lent the complex\u00a0culinary creds even among New Yorkers who disdain\u00a0malls.<\/p>\n<p>Although\u00a0Quality Branded\u2019s Bad Roman and Twin Tails have juiced the still lively third floor, an eerie sense of loss pervades the fourth floor, where\u00a0Porter House and its sister cafe Center Bar closed after Labor Day.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37745278\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/one-two-sushi-restaurants-nyc-25949285.jpg\" alt=\"Sign for Bar Masa restaurant.\" class=\"wp-image-37745278\"  \/>Masa is facing an uncertain future in the wake of it losing one of its Michelin stars.  Angel Chevrestt<\/p>\n<p>A rep for Related Companies, the tower\u2019s developer and the mall\u2019s\u00a0operator, declined to comment. A source said sprawling Center Bar might reopen as early as next month under different management.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Masa itself\u00a0faces an uncertain future, industry sources said.<\/p>\n<p>Chef Masayoshi Takayama\u2019s 26-seat omakase spot\u00a0risks losing at least 25% of its business once its current reservation list runs out, according to one\u00a0restaurateur who knows well the damage that a lost Michelin star can cost.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt won\u2019t happen overnight,\u00a0but Masa will be hurt,\u201d the insider said. He said that while\u00a0Michelin stars matter less to New Yorkers than do local reviewers \u2014 and even social-media influencers \u2014 they remain\u00a0the last word for\u00a0many European and Asian visitors who regard the \u201cred book\u201d as gospel and chose where to eat in New York entirely on the basis of Michelin stars.<\/p>\n<p>Masa reigned\u00a0atop the sushi scene since the building opened in 2009.
