President Donald Trump has apparently rescinded his plans to deploy National Guard troops to New York City. <\/p>\n

Speaking with reporters at the White House Saturday, Trump was asked if he was still seeking to deploy the National Guard to his home state. <\/p>\n

Trump has faced scrutiny for sending troops in recent months to Democratic-led cities<\/a>, including Chicago<\/a> and Los Angeles<\/a>, where they\u2019ve triggered violent raids and brutal arrests.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they need it, [I will send troops]. Right now, other places need it more, but if they need it,\u201d Trump responded<\/a>. \u201cWe had a very good meeting yesterday.\u201d <\/p>\n

The right-wing leader added, \u201cWe talked about that, but if they need it, I would do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s comments followed his Friday meeting<\/a> with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani at the White House. The political pair had hurled insults<\/a> at each other from a distance<\/a> in interviews and on social media before eventually meeting in person. <\/p>\n

Before the meeting was arranged, Trump and Mamdani\u2019s contentious relationship heated up even further after the president threatened<\/a> to starve New York City of funding<\/a> should Mamdani win the mayoral race. <\/p>\n

Mamdani, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist, beat out<\/a> Trump\u2019s ex-foe, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D), whom Trump endorsed, and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the New York City mayoral election earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Though Trump and Mamdani had a surprisingly cordial meeting<\/a>, Mamdani didn\u2019t reverse course on referring to Trump as a fascist as he also did during his mayoral campaign. <\/p>\n

When asked by a reporter during Friday\u2019s meeting if he still views Trump as a fascist, the president interjected before Mamdani could answer, blurting out, \u201cThat\u2019s OK, you can just say yes. It\u2019s easier than explaining it, I don\u2019t mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOK, yes,\u201d the mayor-elect responded with a smile as Trump gave him a seemingly friendly pat on his arm.<\/p>\n

Appearing on NBC\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press<\/a>\u201d on Sunday, Mamdani was asked<\/a> again if he still stands by his previous comments about Trump.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s something that I\u2019ve said in the past. I say it today,\u201d he replied<\/a>. \u201cAnd I think what I appreciated about the conversation that I had with the president was that we were not shy about the places of disagreement, about the politics that has brought us to this moment.\u201d <\/p>\n
