{"id":49986,"date":"2025-11-24T07:11:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T07:11:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/49986\/"},"modified":"2025-11-24T07:11:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-24T07:11:08","slug":"knicks-left-holding-breath-as-they-await-landry-shamet-injury-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/49986\/","title":{"rendered":"Knicks left holding breath as they await Landry Shamet injury news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Landry Shamet was officially listed as out for Monday\u2019s game against the Nets with a sprained right shoulder, although it\u2019s safe to assume that further testing will paint a more complete picture of the severity of his injury \u2014 or, more importantly, the answer to whether he\u2019ll need surgery.<\/p>\n<p>Shamet <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/22\/sports\/landry-shamet-exits-with-apparent-injury-in-scary-knicks-scene\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">appeared to dislocate his shoulder<\/a> after absorbing a hard screen from Wendell Carter Jr. in the first quarter of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/22\/sports\/knicks-overwhelmed-by-magic-again-as-defense-struggles\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Saturday\u2019s loss to the Magic<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>Afterward, Knicks coach Mike Brown said Shamet would undergo a full evaluation in the \u201ccoming days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And for the 28-year-old guard, there\u2019s a lot riding on the results.<\/p>\n<p>Assuming the diagnosis is a dislocated shoulder, Shamet can either opt for season-ending surgery or try to rehab and return sooner. <\/p>\n<p>Shamet dislocated his shoulder a little over a year ago and chose the nonsurgical route, playing again after a couple of months. <\/p>\n<p>However, the decision left Shamet\u2019s shoulder susceptible to popping out again, which is what appeared to occur Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Shamet\u2019s contract is not guaranteed until early January, so surgery would likely force the Knicks to waive him. <\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37748904\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/new-york-knicks-guard-landry-116061109.jpg\" alt=\"New York Knicks guard Landry Shamet (44) reacts to an injury during the first quarter.\" class=\"wp-image-37748904\"  \/>Landry Shamet reacts after injuring his shoulder during the Knicks\u2019 Nov. 22 game. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect<\/p>\n<p>Even if Shamet chooses the nonsurgical route again, a long recovery would place the Knicks in a tough position. <\/p>\n<p>They are short on reliable bodies and could potentially use Shamet\u2019s roster spot for a free agent, or perhaps in a trade.<\/p>\n<p>Mikal Bridges, who is close with Shamet, said he spoke with his buddy soon after the injury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw him at halftime,\u201d Bridges said. \u201cHe said he was OK. As long as he\u2019s OK \u2014 his mental is OK. He knows more than me, but he\u2019s in good spirits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cObviously, we know how valuable he is,\u201d Bridges added when asked how the team will compensate for Shamet\u2019s absence. \u201cBut it\u2019s next guy. Next guy has to step up. A lot of guys in the locker room that\u2019s ready.
