Queen<\/a> guitarist Brian May<\/a> and drummer Roger Taylor<\/a> have spoken about the possibility of an ABBA Voyage<\/a>-style hologram show \u2013 see what they had to say below.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Big Issue<\/a> recently, May and Taylor addressed the chances of an original Queen line-up reunion of sorts with late vocalist Freddie Mercury<\/a> and bassist John Deacon, who retired in 1997.<\/p>\n

Touching on \u201creuniting\u201d with their former bandmates virtually, May said: \u201cFreddie is still alive through the music that we listen to all the time. In a sense, John is still with us in the same way, but now we have so many other opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI mean things that are immersive, like The Sphere in Las Vegas, it will be possible to give people the experience very closely of what things were like for us when we were Freddie, John, Brian and Roger. And that really appeals to me,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

May went on to compare their recent live shows to what can be done via holograms: \u201cIn our Queen shows for a very long time I\u2019ve been doing \u2018Love of My Life\u2019. And in the end, Freddie comes in and joins me as on video. It was just quite simply done, but it\u2019s a way of involving Freddie, and I think we can basically take that a lot further.<\/p>\n

He said of a possible hologram-style show: \u201cIt wouldn\u2019t be just playing old footage or whatever. it would be creating Queen as if we were creating it today. I\u2019m very taken with the idea that we can be the original Queen again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Drummer Roger Taylor then revealed that while he \u201chad a good time\u201d and \u201cenjoyed\u201d the ABBA Voyage show \u2013 which debuted in 2022 \u2013 he left a showing with mixed feelings: \u201cI didn\u2019t find the actual projections that convincing. I do think technology now has come so much further since the ABBA show started, I think a lot more can be done.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last year, speculation emerged that a Queen hologram show was in the works after Mercury Songs Limited \u2013 the organisation which has ownership over late frontman Freddie Mercury\u2019s solo works \u2013 reportedly filed to trademark his moniker for virtual reality and 3D<\/a>.<\/p>\n

At the time, May seemed reluctant at the idea: \u201cWe\u2019ve talked about and looked at holograms of Freddie, [but] we love to be live and dangerous, that\u2019s it, that\u2019s our emphasis. Now, when we\u2019re all gone, yeah sure, make an ABBA\u00a0thing about us, but while we\u2019re here I want to play live.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued, once again comparing the idea to having archival footage of Freddie Mercury showing up onscreen: \u201cWe have a little bit of stuff with Freddie\u2026 I do \u2018Love of My Life\u2019 generally and Freddie comes in and joins me at the end when we do our live shows. But it\u2019s not a hologram, it\u2019s just sort of old-school technology which we kind of like.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Queen, the\u00a0band were named the UK\u2019s most-played rock act of the 21st century back in October<\/a>. The month before that, May\u00a0revealed that\u00a0Queen have worked on new music with Adam Lambert<\/a>, though they\u2019re not sure it will go anywhere. \u201cNot many people know, but Adam and we have been in the studio trying things. Nothing really materialised so far. Some things are meant to be and some things are not.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then added that the band have considered bringing their live show to The Sphere in Las Vegas. \u201c\u200aI\u2019m very keen on the Sphere.
