CHSAA Cheerleading: NDA earns top honors while other Island schools place 2nd at Archdiocesan regional"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XC34R7BGIBHW7MAYH4KU35YB7E\">With CHSAA competitions, one thing that\u2019s certain is that there\u2019s no guarantees on who will make it out on top.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"R447KEJWKZA2DA5FHDORYBGA2Q\">But, if the Staten Island schools have anything to say about it, it certainly won\u2019t be easy for others to surpass them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"X2OYF46AEBCBTIPKMAQTEHNJ7I\">Notre Dame Academy placed first in both Division II Game-Day and Traditional, competing at the CHSAA Archdiocesan Regional at the College of Staten Island\u2019s Sports and Recreation Center, The Gators also earned the top scores of the day, with a 90.2 in the former and 86.1 in the latter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"NW2TN2SLWFGJ3PFBVHKMNYIQBE\">Moore Catholic, St. Joseph by-the-Sea and St. Joseph Hill, meanwhile, all finished second across three levels of competition. Across all sessions, the largest difference between first and second was 5.75 points.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"7MC76WIRYFCZDHLG5JMB5L6MYE\">With all four schools competing against five teams in traditional, thanks to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/highschoolsports\/2025\/10\/staten-island-cheerleading-chsaa-announces-new-divisions-for-regional-competition.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/highschoolsports\/2025\/10\/staten-island-cheerleading-chsaa-announces-new-divisions-for-regional-competition.html\">CHSAA\u2019s recent division realignment<\/a>, it\u2019ll only get harder to stay in the top 3 as the season goes on. But for now, after a hectic November schedule, each program will prepare for the next league competition on Dec. 13 at Hofstra University.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-gallery-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764014560_I47MB5SZZFFYDGOED5M5VOPTL4.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"image-gallery-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764015969_323_7XNXWALIUVGTNIYEC6KZK2URLI.jpg\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>1\/100<\/p>\n<p class=\"image-gallery-caption\">Staten Island teams have strong showing at CHSAA Archdiocesan regional<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"6JBAJEE4NRECLNLCOTGMFPHH74\">NDA earns first place, Hill second in Division II<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"65765VK7HJELFNFFOTE6FOLMD4\">With NDA and Hill being the only Island programs going against each other, it\u2019s fair to say this classic rivalry will be one to watch throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZHILN5MIKNHKDBW2KNE6BETYLQ\">This time, however, the Gators emerged victorious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RG4AMRFOQFD6VMOANWXNHXXVUY\">NDA overcame a early fall in its traditional routine to finish strong, earning a raw score of 87.1 and 86.1 after deductions. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"MLXMNLGIMBGELJZCRBDQN2ZKUI\">\u201cWe\u2019ve been talking about not giving up on yourself and on each other, and nobody gave up [even after the fall],\u201d said co-coach Danielle Vindigni. \u201cYou can hear them talking to each other on the mat and hyping each other up, and you can feel that [energy] from the other side of the mat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CHSAA Archdiocesan Regional at CSI\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764015969_595_RE2VYNA5GNC3FAIKJ4UIPPO6PI.jpg\"  \/>NDA won top honors for its Game-Day and Traditional routine while Hill, Moore and Sea all took second across three different levels of competition. However, the Hilltoppers aren\u2019t dwelling on the past as they look to the rematch at Hofstra.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"Y7WHLGPTYRCWLJTYDA42NZX7AA\">\u201cWe fought for our skills and we\u2019re getting better each and every week,\u201d said Hill coach Kai Bingham. \u201cOur full-up switch-ups [in our first partner stunts] were really solid, with our bases doing a great job of planting their feet and our flyers doing great in keeping their presence out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"N33LFVTHVNHLBE6SXIYSGYH7AQ\">\u201cWe\u2019re just going to keep working on our cleanliness, execution, and making sure our girls know they\u2019re capable of anything they put their minds to.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"D7F2ETIKEFB7ZMCMK2SHHHU7FI\">In DII Game-Day, the Gators continued its domination of the category with a score of 90.2, beating second-place St. John the Baptist by 6.2 points (84).<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OS3AVOGTIZEZFMTDJLMMO66LEM\">\u201cWatching from the back [at the music station], I only get to feel their energy rather than see it, and you could just feel they were hyped and ready to go,\u201d continued Vindigni. \u201cThey just feed off the crowd energy [at CSI], and it hypes them up in a different way than any other place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"CHSAA Archdiocesan Regional at CSI\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/1764015970_760_FIS6AKUSSFHVPBDXRTJJA45DUA.jpg\"  \/>NDA won top honors for its Game-Day and Traditional routine while Hill, Moore and Sea all took second across three different levels of competition. (Annie DeBiase for the Advance\/SILive.com)(Annie DeBiase for the Advance\/SILive.com)<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"E2FVI7Q7SJCZJLXSSQ4V5BMJKA\">Now, the team will look to clean up and add more into the routine before the next competition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WXRZRWWUOJAFDASYHHBC3Q2Q7Y\">\u201cThere\u2019s a little bit of difficulty that was originally choreographed that we need to add back in, but we\u2019re going to be focused on timing and technique,\u201d said co-coach Kim Fitzgerald. \u201cJust really getting those extra reps in and making everyone even more comfortable in our routines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LZWSYHJ6QZFMLBV7HDEEH42LRU\">Sea, Moore earn second in DI and DIII<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"GVXLAUZNLVDORKQSVCV2GKZCGE\">In what was both teams\u2019 best performances of the season, Sea took second place behind St. Anthony\u2019s while Moore was just edged out by Preston HS.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IF3SRURMVVEIFL3PXHC3RYGTRU\">The Vikings earned a raw score of 83 and finished with a 80.75 after a few falls and a touch-down during tumbling, while the Friars earned a final score of 82.9. However, head coach Kim Kukal is excited for the potential she sees in the routine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PWQXWIQM7JD4BLYONIXMO6CZC4\">\u201cWe\u2019re still not where we want to be, but they\u2019ve looked the cleanest they\u2019ve ever looked and it\u2019s just getting better and better,\u201d said Kukal. \u201cOur ending pyramid was the first time they\u2019ve all hit together [in competition], and they just looked powerful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"IE4Y4ERVDZCGJNLMHYYROLKMR4\">Attributing the mishaps to nerves, Kukal\u2019s squad will look to clean up and gain confidence ahead of the next comp.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TAGK5AKQO5E4LFXXXBTOQOIC5A\">\u201cThe two stunts that fell were hitting this week, so I think they just had to get their nerves out,\u201d added Kukal. \u201cThese are new stunt groups, so they\u2019re a little nervous but they\u2019re getting there. With Preston finishing with a 75.4, the Mavericks ended up less than a point off from its first win of the season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"OYQ433JO4FHI7FRGX3UCGILS2E\">But, with an otherwise strong showing, the Graniteville school was more than happy about its placement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CHCZUQL77NFJDDSBXKEMAC4XAU\">\u201cThe girls have done their absolute best, and I\u2019m just at a loss for words,\u201d said coach Julia Scarola. \u201cThey took the corrections from last week and have really improved from then until now. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"ZXQTAKKP5RDZZLS6DYFRM5TZ2A\">\u201cWe\u2019re only going up from here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BZWPT5HSRJDWXM3QXTRW5KSEVE\">Opting to rechoreograph a section of the routine in preparation for this week, the benefits were clear as the Mavs hit the section to the delight of the crowd.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"FCVDYQO4XFGU3OSVQYZ5YVKVIU\">\u201cThey know they can hit these skills, but once they get on the mat they\u2019ll get in their heads,\u201d added Scarola. \u201cWe felt it was best to go in with a clean and neat routine they feel confident in.
