On Skyline Chili: \u2018I thought I was gonna hate it\u2019<\/p>\n
For someone who has never had Skyline Chili, Dave Portnoy sure knew a whole lot about its history. <\/p>\n
Standing outside of the Oakley location, the Barstool founder gave a short spiel on the founding of what is now the Queen City\u2019s prized possession. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s world-famous, everybody goes to Skyline Chili. Cincinnati people love it; other people say acquired taste,\u201d he said with the to-go bag in-hand. <\/a><\/p>\n Portnoy ordered a small three-way, unsure of what to do with the shredded cheese and oyster crackers. <\/p>\n \u201cAm I putting this stuff in it?\u201d He asked. \u201cI assume you do.\u201d <\/p>\n Placing the three-way on the ground, piling it with cheese and crackers, Portnoy tried Cincinnati\u2019s specialty under rainy skies in the restaurant\u2019s parking lot. <\/p>\n \u201cI thought I was gonna hate it — I don\u2019t hate it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n \u201cYeah, I think this is pretty good. I\u2019m gonna have a stomach ache after, but I could eat this.\u201d<\/p>\n After a few more bites, Portnoy officially gave Skyline Chili a 7.6 out of 10 — his first ever chili review. Based on his One Bite pizza review score card, that translates to good. <\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019ve heard so many bad things about Skyline Chili from outside of Cincy, I think this is pretty good,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n Of course, you can\u2019t have Skyline without a sweet treat to follow it. <\/p>\n Portnoy tried Graeter\u2019s Skyline Chili-flavored ice cream.<\/p>\n \u201cGreat ice cream, not my favorite flavor,\u201d he said, rating it a 6.1. <\/p>\n As for the Skyline Chili employees working Friday night, Portnoy gave them a 9.8 for their hospitality. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen you\u2019re going to a chain, you don\u2019t expect the workers to be that happy at their job. That like, \u2018We love you Mr. Dave,\u2019 \u2018We\u2019re so happy you\u2019re here…,\u2019\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n Before dining at Skyline, Dave Portnoy went on a shopping spree<\/a> at the University of Cincinnati\u2019s Bearcats bookstore. <\/p>\n Portnoy said he was on the hunt for \u201cpractical stuff,\u201d like sweatpants and sweatshirts, but he also received custom Bearcats merch. <\/p>\n Overall, the bookstore received a 7.1 with the hospitality score at an 8.3. <\/p>\n Portnoy said the store was \u201ckind of small\u201d and the employees working at the time were a bit \u201ctoo much.\u201d <\/p>\n \u201cIf we\u2019re being honest, we had two security [expletive], we had 10 people who work at the store in my face the entire time… I couldn\u2019t really focus on what was going on — there was a lot going on,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n Portnoy says the hospitality score would have been a 10, but dropped 1.7 points. <\/p>\n \u201cExcited to be here… I think I just need for all you future bookstores — I guess we\u2019re running out — you gotta let me breathe just a tiny bit,\u201d he continued. <\/p>\n Portnoy was in town during one of Cincinnati\u2019s busiest sports weekends. <\/p>\n According to his videos online, he attended a highly attended high school football game between St. Xavier and Elder at Paycor Stadium Friday night. <\/p>\n On Saturday morning, Portnoy attended FOX Sport\u2019s Big Noon Kickoff at Bearcat Commons for the evening game against UC and BYU where he was dressed in blue. <\/p>\n See a spelling or grammatical error in our story?
