{"id":51733,"date":"2025-11-25T15:42:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T15:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/51733\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T15:42:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T15:42:08","slug":"nau-marching-band-prepares-for-iconic-thanksgiving-parade-in-new-york-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/51733\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU marching band prepares for iconic Thanksgiving parade in New York City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AZFamily) \u2014 The Northern Arizona University marching band is in New York City, preparing to perform in the annual Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade!<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NAUMarchingBand\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/NAUMarchingBand\/\">Lumberjack marching band<\/a> is making history as the first Arizona college marching band to play in the iconic event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The band performed a concert in Central Park on Monday to prepare for Thursday\u2019s performance and to entertain park visitors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThere is such a magnetic energy to this city,\u201d said Stephen Meyer, NAU band director, speaking from Central Park. \u201cI would say about 95% of our students have never been here before. When we were pulling up on the buses into Times Square, they were just thrilled; pointing and all of the excitement was exactly what we were hoping for after about 18 months of planning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"The Northern Arizona University marching band is in New York City for the Macy's Thanksgiving...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/6GLTXEQHCBBWFDUP3EEN2WOWBM.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>The Northern Arizona University marching band is in New York City for the Macy&#8217;s Thanksgiving Day Parade.(NAU Marching Band)Fundraising and preparation<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The marching band raised $250,000 to make the trip happen. Meyer said it\u2019s an enormous honor to represent the university, Flagstaff and the whole state.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">More than 250 band members will walk in the parade. Meyer discussed the song they will perform on national television.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSince we have such a national stage, we wanted to do something that represents Arizona and Flagstaff, so we found an arrangement of \u2018Get Your Kicks On Route 66\u2019 by John Mayer from the \u2018Cars\u2019 movie, and so that\u2019s going to be what we perform in Heralds Square,\u201d Meyer said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The students will also get time to explore New York City.
