{"id":52135,"date":"2025-11-25T21:41:09","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T21:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/52135\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T21:41:09","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T21:41:09","slug":"community-partners-unite-for-staten-island-food-distribution-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/52135\/","title":{"rendered":"Community partners unite for Staten Island food distribution event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2TBM35D26JEELIKOURAWMBLSH4\">STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 The Council of Jewish Organizations of Staten Island hosted its Fall Food Distribution, bringing together volunteers, law enforcement and community organizations to serve families in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"YDF6GBG7VNFJZDJRCAQA6PC3ZI\">Youth volunteers from the Kids Give Back program played a central role in the distribution, packing bags and assisting families under the guidance of Making a Change with Kindness. Annesa Ali, CEO and founder of MACK and COJO\u2019s chief of staff, said the program teaches young people to practice compassion through service.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"BD33ETZTMFDWPDLTWB4TWLA54Y\">\u201cSeeing our youth enthusiastically packing bags and assisting families demonstrates that compassion is an active choice,\u201d Ali said. \u201cThey are learning that by serving our neighbors, they are actively Making a Change with Kindness and building a stronger, more empathetic Staten Island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"5ZIN3GWGTNGMXMCCR5RKKZ6W3Q\">Law enforcement officers from the NYPD Community Affairs and NYS MTA Police provided security and traffic management for the event. Captain Ryan Russel, commanding officer of the NYS MTA Police District 9, said the partnership extends beyond logistics.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"COJO and MACK partnership: Fall Food Distribution serves Staten Island families\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/MVUUDQBCIVAN7EJPM5JTQLANTU.jpg\"  \/>Mendy Mirocznik, COJO, president;  Joe Rayski, Amazon; Annesa Ali, founder and CEO of MACK; and chief of staff, COJO; joined with Mya Collins and Mia Collins; the dynamic youth leaders, MACK pictured together.Courtesy of COJO<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TD6PHRZVVVE37J2TTZWADZWTVY\">\u201cOur participation goes beyond traffic control; it\u2019s about bridging community relations with law enforcement,\u201d Russel said. \u201cWorking alongside COJO, we are not only building a great relationship with their organization but actively demonstrating our commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Staten Island.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"57PDSS553ZAGNMS5D3WT5VGRHM\">COJO President Rabbi Mendy Mirocznik credited the collaborative effort for the event\u2019s success, thanking volunteers, partners and law enforcement.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"low\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Staten Island community service: COJO's Fall Food Distribution brings hope\" class=\"article__image-content\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/RMNLOPTAWZGHBG44UXF37WG6WI.jpg\"  \/>Assemblyman Michael Reilly; Rabbi Aharon Zeev, Mara D\u2019Atra, Aur Torah Sephardic Minyan of Staten Island; Natalia Borushchak, COJO legal consul; Community Affairs Officer John Sibal; Community Officer Beshouy Rizkalla; Mendy Mirocznik, COJO, president;  Annesa Ali, founder and CEO of MACK; Joe Rayski, Amazon; Community Affairs Officer Brian Postiglione; and Community Affairs Sean Mondello pictured together helping out.Courtesy of COJO<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"PPUUCZ3YWBC5TP2LMKHTMWKD6I\">\u201cThe NYPD Community Affairs and the NYS MTA Police were not just supporters; they were a key, crucial partner, ensuring the safety, efficiency, and tremendous success of this distribution,\u201d Rabbi Mirocznik said. \u201cIt truly takes an entire community to deliver hope, and everyone stepped up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"XAX3BZ4N3JAYHFGZQSWJHAOP74\">Assemblyman Michael Reilly praised the integration of police and community in the effort and pledged continued support for the food pantry program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"TU2NAVY5KNEBTE2JN7DIJN76TU\">The distribution received support from several partners, including Joe Rayski from Amazon, Gary Tai and Carina Vizhnay from Anthem, Jenny Palaguachi from the Health Education Project, and Carlos Londono from VNS Health, who volunteered alongside other participants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SVAR3KG3SZCHLCISHL6UUUVKYQ\">Rabbi Aharon Zeev of Aur Torah Sephardic Minyan, which hosted the event, said opening the synagogue\u2019s doors for the distribution reflects the congregation\u2019s values.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"WEPAT5POCVDCVAAJTEIRS7GFCY\">\u201cSeeing members of our congregation, alongside the wider community, lending a helping hand to neighbors in need is truly inspiring,\u201d Zeev said. \u201cIt is the highest expression of our values.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HAJDNQFSYZGUDIW3QZKFL4Q4EU\">Iva Reuven, who oversees COJO Food Pantry and Social Services, coordinated the on-site operations with community volunteers.
