It\u2019s time for an early curtain call.<\/p>\n
Kristin Chenoweth\u2019s musical\u00a0\u201cQueen of Versailles\u201d first began previews on Broadway on Oct. 8 before officially opening two weeks ago. Now, it\u2019s been announced\u00a0that the show is set to close on Jan. 4.<\/p>\n
Despite originally being slated to run through March 29, per tickets on the website, the show was met with scathing reviews. <\/p>\n

The\u00a0New York Times\u00a0<\/a>reported\u00a0that the musical cost around $22.5 million to capitalize.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Queen of Versailles\u201d\u00a0follows the real story of a Florida couple who set out to build the largest home in the United States in 2008. However, financial crisis soon strikes.<\/p>\n The 2012 documentary of the same name recounted the events from the perspective of Florida billionaires David and Jackie Siegel.<\/p>\n Kristin Chenoweth as Jackie Siegel and F. Murray Abraham.<\/p>\n Several Broadway vets joined \u201cQueen of Versailles,\u201d including playwright Lindsey Ferrentino and Tony-winning director Michael Arden.<\/p>\n Stephen Schwartz, who penned the score for \u201cWicked\u201d on Broadway, is also involved. <\/p>\n Kristin Chenoweth as Jackie Siegel in the \u201cQueen of Versailles.\u201d DKC\/O&M<\/p>\n Chenoweth, 57, starred in \u201cWicked\u201d as Glinda, opposite Idina Menzel as Elphaba, in 2003. <\/p>\n The Post\u2019s movie critic Johnny Oleksinski wrote<\/a>, \u201cI hoped the tag team of Chenoweth and Arden would have magic to do. No such luck. The actress is a theatrical force, as everybody knows, but Simone Biles can\u2019t do a back handspring on a toothpick, either.\u201d <\/p>\n He added, \u201cWith skin-deep material to work with, Chenoweth transparently leans into broad yuks like she\u2019s serving donuts for dinner. DKC\/O&M<\/p>\n Entertainment Weekly\u2019s Dalton Ross\u00a0stated in his review<\/a>\u00a0that \u201cthe songs are just one of many problems plaguing an identity crisis of a show that doesn\u2019t quite seem to know what it wants to be.\u201d<\/p>\n But according to the\u00a0New York Times<\/a>, they found the musical to be \u201can entertaining biomusical with a hummable score\u201d and called Chenoweth \u201cwinsome\u201d and \u201cfunny.\u201d <\/p>\n The actress, however, is no stranger to Broadway. <\/p>\n Kristin Chenoweth during the opening night curtain call for \u201cThe Queen of Versailles.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n Chenoweth took home a Tony in 1999 for her work in\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.\u201d<\/p>\n She was also nominated for\u00a0\u201cWicked\u201d in 2004 and for\u00a0\u201cOn the Twentieth Century\u201d in 2015.<\/p>\n Along with originating the roles on Broadway, Chenoweth and Menzel, 54, appeared in part one of Jon M. Chu\u2019s \u201cWicked,\u201d<\/a> which hit theaters last November. <\/p>\n Joel Grey, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel at curtain call for \u201cWicked.\u201d FilmMagic<\/p>\n The stars played members of the singing troupe Wizomania Choir that Glinda (Ariana Grande) and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) encounter while at Shiz University.<\/p>\n Grande, 32, gushed to People at the time that \u201cit was just such a surreal honor\u201d to film with the icons.<\/p>\n \u201cTo be coming up with bits together with them and to watch them sing and to do their shtick [was an] out-of-body experience, truly,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n Chenoweth and Menzel didn\u2019t have a cameo in part two, \u201cWicked: For Good,\u201d which came out on November 21.<\/p>\n Chenoweth and Idina Menzel in the musical \u201cWicked.\u201d FilmMagic<\/p>\n The film landed in first place<\/a> during its box office debut on Friday, earning $68.68 million,\u00a0per The Numbers<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/p>\n According to The Post<\/a>, part two is \u201can emotional and elongated version of the Broadway musical\u2019s second act.\u201d<\/p>\n And Chenoweth was more than happy to pass her wand along.<\/p>\n \u201cIdina and I feel really good about it. It\u2019s their time,\u201d she told\u00a0Extra\u00a0in June. \u201cWe had our moment and we were very honored they included us, but it\u2019s their turn.\u201d <\/p>\n Ariana Grande, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Cynthia Erivo in \u201cWicked.\u201d Universal<\/p>\n \u201cI think we kind of did our thing and passed the broom and wand, so to speak,\u201d Chenoweth reiterated to The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> earlier this month. \u201cBut I can\u2019t wait to see it. I kind of know a lot about it from my girl [Grande], so I just can\u2019t wait.\u201d<\/p>\n
