{"id":52184,"date":"2025-11-25T22:30:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-25T22:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/52184\/"},"modified":"2025-11-25T22:30:11","modified_gmt":"2025-11-25T22:30:11","slug":"monroe-u-basketball-player-amira-mccleod-killed-on-long-island","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/52184\/","title":{"rendered":"Monroe U. basketball player Amira McCleod killed on Long Island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 19-year-old female college basketball player was killed on Long Island in a triple shooting Saturday night \u2014 hours after playing the most minutes yet this season in a game.<\/p>\n<p>Tragic Monroe University guard Amira McCleod, a Queens native playing at the school\u2019s Bronx campus, was gunned down just before 11 p.m. outside a Hempstead home near Willow and Kennedy avenues, cops and reports said.<\/p>\n<p>The bullets rained down<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/04\/us-news\/boy-15-fatally-stabbed-outside-wild-long-island-house-party\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> during a party<\/a> and also struck two 20-year-old men who are students at nearby Nassau Community College, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/hempstead-party-shooting-nassau-county\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">CBS 2 reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Amira McCleod was playing for the women\u2019s basketball team at Monroe University\u2019s Bronx campus. Instagram\/@a__stackz<\/p>\n<p>McCleod was pronounced dead on the scene, while the two young men were hospitalized in stable condition, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/18\/us-news\/nassau-cops-cuff-nearly-40-ms-13-gang-members-accused-of-terrorizing-long-island-as-territory-beefs-heat-up\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nassau Police<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s unclear whether any of the victims were the targets of the attack. No arrest has been made, and an investigation into the shooting is ongoing, the department said.<\/p>\n<p>Party guest Makail Muhammad described how the horror suddenly unfolded without any warning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was inside, and I heard shots, and everybody started running and everything. The police came quick,\u201d he told CBS.<\/p>\n<p>McCleod was pronounced dead on the scene, while the two young men were hospitalized in stable condition, according to Nassau Police. Like, we didn\u2019t know anything was gonna happen.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McCleod was nine games into her sophomore season when she was slain. Her team, The Express, was off to an early 8-1 hot start.<\/p>\n<p>The 5-foot-3 guard played a season high 30 minutes in the team\u2019s Saturday afternoon 67-44 win over Dutchess Community College hours before her death.<\/p>\n<p>McCleod was nine games into her season at Monroe when she was killed.
