Mark DeGarmo Dance Awarded $49,500 by the New York State Council on the Arts<\/p>\n

New York, NY \u2013 Mark DeGarmo Dance announced today a grant award totaling $49,500 from the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support the arts and culture sector. Through New York State\u2019s continued investment in arts and culture, NYSCA has awarded $80.9 million\u00a0in FY 2026 to arts and culture nonprofits across all 10 regions and a historic number of artists.<\/p>\n

\u201cNew York\u2019s arts and culture sector is a cornerstone of the state\u2019s identity, and we’re making bold investments to ensure it remains strong,\u201d\u00a0Governor Hochul said.\u00a0\u201cThese grants will lift up artists and organizations in every region, fueling local economies and expanding access to the arts. Congratulations to all the grantees \u2013 your talent and dedication help power New York\u2019s future.\u201d<\/p>\n

About Mark DeGarmo Dance<\/p>\n

Mark DeGarmo Dance began operations in 1982, incorporated in 1987, and will celebrate\u00a0 its 39th anniversary in 2026 as a leading New York City nonprofit dance organization. Its evidence-based\u00a0Partnerships in Literacy through Dance & Creativity\u00a0program annually serves up to 1,000 students and 200 teachers in historically under-resourced, geographically isolated, marginalized and disenfranchised Title I NYC public elementary schools. MDD\u2019s Professional Learning Program supports MDD\u2019s teaching artists and educational program staff with 30-120 hours of annual learning in the company\u2019s methods\u00a0<\/p>\n

and methodology. Its Salon Performance Series for Social Change since 2019 has produced\u00a0<\/p>\n

works-in-process and facilitated conversations with audiences and artists in 42 salons featuring 566 total dance and movement artists from 23 states and 31 countries. President Barack Obama commended Mark DeGarmo Dance for\u00a0your service to your community and the nation. The National Endowment for the Arts deemed MDD\u2019s NYC dance education program for under-resourced New York City public elementary students living under the federal poverty rate \u201ca national model.\u201d The\u00a0National Dance Education Organization research shows that 1-7% of USA elementary schools have such a program as MDD\u2019s evidence-based\u00a0Partnerships in Literacy through Dance & Creativity.\u00a0<\/p>\n
