Queen Camilla<\/a> has always been a strong advocate for reading, and now, she\u2019s the star of a new book.<\/p>\n

One of the queen\u2019s favorite crime authors, Peter James, made her the protagonist in his latest Roy Grace novel, titled The Hawk Is Dead<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new detective installment takes place in 2023, where Camilla is on her way to a royal engagement when her train is suddenly stopped and an explosion takes out her private secretary. Soon, it becomes evident that the blast may have been an attempt on Camilla\u2019s life, and it opens up an investigation that reveals dark secrets within the royal household.

Apparently, James consulted Camilla and other royal insiders while collecting research for the book, and it isn\u2019t entirely surprising that he chose to center his latest mystery around Camilla, given that the royal interviewed him for her Reading Room podcast<\/a> back in 2024.<\/p>\n

The Queen\u2019s Reading Room<\/a> is a charity that Camilla launched in 2023, stemming from a book club Instagram account she began during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n

While her efforts started as a way to highlight various authors and their works, it eventually grew into a charity that conducts research into the benefits of reading, and aims to offer accessible literary content around the world. Meanwhile, it also encompasses a book festival, reading lists, and the awarding of the Queen\u2019s Reading Room Medal, which celebrates individuals who champion literacy in the U.K.<\/p>\n
