More is coming to light behind Pete Carroll\u2019s decision to fire Chip Kelly<\/a> as the Raiders\u2019 offensive coordinator.<\/p>\n

The Raiders made the move earlier this week and Carroll told reporters that he had given Kelly \u201ca lot of leeway\u201d during his short tenure calling plays in Las Vegas, but NFL Network\u2019s Tom Pelissero reported on Wednesday that there was more to what had occurred.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Appearing on \u201cThe Rich Eisen Show,\u201d the NFL insider suggested that Kelly had been messing up some of the play calls.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThere were times, I was told, where Chip Kelly was repeatedly botching the playcalls,\u201d Pelissero said. \u201cHe\u2019s supposed to be, for instance, tagging a motion on a play so the receiver\u2019s on the left, not the right. He forgets to say it, so Geno Smith\u2019s going to the line of scrimmage and going \u2018this doesn\u2019t look right.\u2019 There\u2019s times where Chip, I was told, on several occasions, called a play that was either not in the gameplan or not installed at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

The new insight would provide additional context to Carroll\u2019s words when he spoke to reporters about his decision.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI gave Chip a lot of leeway because he\u2019s got an extraordinary background and history, and he had such a phenomenal season coming out of Ohio State last year, so we wanted to give him his due and all that,\u201d Carroll said on Monday.<\/a> \u201cAs we continued to grow and come together, we just couldn\u2019t get there. So, I wish him the very best, and I like him and we got along great, but we had to make a tough call.\u201d<\/p>\n
