{"id":54228,"date":"2025-11-27T18:03:08","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T18:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/54228\/"},"modified":"2025-11-27T18:03:08","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T18:03:08","slug":"thousands-celebrate-99th-annual-macys-thanksgiving-day-parade-in-nyc-turkey-over-here","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/54228\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands celebrate 99th annual Macy&#8217;s Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC: &#8216;Turkey, over here!&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s the gift that keeps on Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands braved blustery winds and packed Big Apple streets to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/27\/us-news\/the-99th-annual-macys-thanksgiving-day-parade-kicks-off-the-holiday-season-in-nyc-photos\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">celebrate the 99th Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The balloons were noticeably held lower than usual to stave off strong gusts, but the holiday cheer was still in order for the exhilarated revelers \u2014 who <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/26\/us-news\/macys-thanksgiving-day-parade-2025-how-to-watch-what-to-know\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">raved when the iconic Tom the Turkey float kicked off the parade.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Tom Turkey kicked off the 99th Macy\u2019s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Come on, over here!\u201d Crowds of children screamed as the confetti cannons blasted off.<\/p>\n<p>Second-grader Laura Condi arrived with her mother promptly at 6 a.m. to claim their stops along the parade route.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI help mommy to help to make the hot chocolate \u2014 lots of jugs of water and hot chocolate pockets,\u201d the 7-year-old told The Post, adding that she had a hard time falling asleep the night before \u2014 even though she\u2019s come to the parade for the last five years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI came when I was 3, 4, 5, 6, and now I\u2019m 7 years old. I am really excited.\u00a0I went to sleep eventually but it was hard to sleep because I was so excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There were six new floats in this year\u2019s festivities.  AP<\/p>\n<p>One man told The Post he claimed a spot for his family at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday \u2014 and brought along a trove of playing cards, tablets \u2014 and hot beverages to keep everyone occupied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are a\u00a0few families. All the dads came earlier and the moms and children came later. The dads came earlier to get front row seats,\u201d Eric said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been our tradition for the last five years.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Little Clara Scott was wearing a birthday crown and had a \u201cHappy Birthday\u201d sign hanging on the NYPD barriers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTurkey, over here! I\u2019m excited,\u201d Clara said, laughing and waving.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to see Derby the Tiger \u2026 I love all of it -saxophones, the marching bands, the balloons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city Emergency Management Department <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/weatherupdates\/index.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">had issued a weather alert for the parade<\/a>, warning that wind gusts could reach speeds between 20 and 30 mph on Thursday afternoon, and up to 40 mph in the evening. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m feeling good, I\u2019m having a good time. I\u2019m excited,\u201d Clara Scott said.<\/p>\n<p> REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>Rain was also expected in the afternoon, but there was nothing but blue skies for the annual march.<\/p>\n<p>Attending the parade was a bucket list item for Allyson Merrigan, 30, and her husband, who were married earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got married and got to come to the Macy\u2019s Day Parade. I always wanted to come \u2013 forever. I watched it on TV for 30 years. It\u2019s a long-life dream \u2013 to come to the Macy\u2019s Day parade,\u201d Merrigan said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like Snoopy. Erik Pendzich\/Shutterstock<\/p>\n<p>She and 12 family members, including a 2-month-old baby, woke up at 4 a.m. to get their spot \u2014 and all were set to head to the Central Park boathouse for dinner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the most energizing Thanksgiving that we\u2019ve ever had, better than the turkey trot in San Francisco.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kathy Miller, 76, had traveled all the way from St Petersburg, Florida to be a part of the parade for the first time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so excited. I\u2019ve always wanted to come,\u201d she said \u2014 while waving, laughing and shouting, \u201cHappy Thanksgiving!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI watched it every year on TV but it is better in person \u2014 no comparison.
