A four-alarm fire in the Bronx turned into a dual emergency Friday afternoon after firefighters evacuating the building discovered a body in a sixth-floor apartment, officials said.<\/p>\n

The FDNY responded around 3 p.m. in the Concourse section of the borough to a fire inside a building on Sheridan Avenue between East 172nd Street and Mount Eden Parkway.<\/p>\n
Firefighters quickly brought the flames under control, but while searching the floors, they found a person dead inside a separate apartment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s currently a separate incident unrelated to the fire, and it\u2019s under investigation by the NYPD,\u201d Deputy Chief Jospeh Duggan said.<\/p>\n
The NYPD is now leading the death investigation, and no arrests have been made, according to officials.<\/p>\n
The discovery came as police and firefighters were evacuating families the day after Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was fast, right,\u201d Audrey Bustos, a resident, said. \u201cI just [brought] this coat. My husband doesn\u2019t even have a coat.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cMy son woke us up. I didn\u2019t think it was the fire department,\u201d Mario Jose Pagan Morales, a resident, said.<\/p>\n
FDNY officials said nine people suffered minor injuries, including two civilians, three firefighters and four NYPD officers.<\/p>\n
The Red Cross is assisting residents who may be displaced as investigators work to determine the cause of the fire.<\/p>\n
