preview here.

Hera are 10 takeaways:

1. Undefeated Title Shot

The Petrides Panthers, with a perfect 12-0 record, will play the East Harlem Pride for the PSAL 1A championship. A victory would mark the first time in program history that the team has finished a season undefeated.

2. High Stakes for Petrides Coach

A win would secure only the second championship in the program’s history and the first for head coach Dave Olah since 2019. Olah holds a 1-3 record in title game appearances during his tenure at Petrides.

3. A Season of Dominance

Entering the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, the Panthers dominated their regular season with an average victory margin of over 30 points per game. Their playoff run included a 34-0 quarterfinal win and a 30-0 semifinal victory.

4. Suffocating Defense

The Panthers’ defense has been a cornerstone of their success, recording seven shutouts throughout the season. The team heads into the championship game having not allowed a single point in their last four contests.

5. Opponent’s Upset Momentum

The No. 4 East Harlem Pride earned their spot in the final by upsetting the top-seeded Mott Haven team 22-0 in the semifinals. This came after losing to Mott Haven in their regular-season opener, and they are now on a nine-game winning streak.

6. Petrides’ Offensive Leaders

The Panthers’ offense is powered by quarterback David Lee, who has 874 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. The ground game is led by running back Josh Okwuabueze, who has amassed 780 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.

7. East Harlem’s Star Power

East Harlem possesses arguably the best player in the league and another in the top five. Their offense is led by sophomore QB Asher Lipman, the top-rated passer in the conference with 1,063 yards and 16 touchdowns.

8. Coach’s Game Plan

Coach Olah stressed that his team’s focus is on details and preparation, especially during a holiday week. He stated that tracking East Harlem’s key offensive players at all times will be critical to securing a victory.

9. Call for Veteran Leadership

Olah explicitly stated that he needs his senior leaders to perform in the championship game. He specifically named Mike Giordano, Josh Okwuabueze, Luke Burmaster, Quardi Shofuyi, Darien Niles, and Aiden Gonzalez as key players who must step up.

10. Program Validation on the Line

Coach Olah believes a championship would validate the Petrides program. He stated a win would show they can play competitive football against any school, regardless of size.

[39
9,24,63,134,136,135
post-55531","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-staten-island","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-city","tag-nyc","tag-staten-island","tag-staten-island-headlines","tag-staten-island-news
["GET
