STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 While areas of northern New Jersey and Westchester County can expect to see some snow accumulation on Tuesday, Staten Island residents should only need to deal with a rainy, wet morning commute, according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Scott Homan. <\/p>\n
\u201cThere might be a slushy covering, but for the most part, anywhere from Staten Island to the east and south, looks to be little to no accumulation,\u201d said Homan. <\/p>\n
Precipitation should begin around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, with the storm moving off the coast and into New England by approximately 11 p.m.<\/p>\n
Winds from the ocean will bring warmer air to the coast near southern New Jersey, Long Island and Staten Island, preventing most snowfall. Areas farther from the ocean will see cold air hang on longer, supporting wet snow for much of the day.<\/p>\n
Higher elevations of northwestern New Jersey, along with portions of Westchester County in New York and central Connecticut, could see 1 to 3 inches of snow. The heaviest accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible in Sullivan County and Ulster County in upstate New York, as well as northern Connecticut. <\/p>\n
According to Homan, main roads from Staten Island southward and eastward are not expected to see significant impacts other than some slush in the early morning, but areas north and west of Interstate 287 could experience slippery and snowy conditions during the late morning commute and throughout the day.<\/p>\n
