{"id":55990,"date":"2025-11-30T02:00:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T02:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/55990\/"},"modified":"2025-11-30T02:00:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T02:00:14","slug":"ex-met-ryan-helsley-signing-with-orioles-to-become-closer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/55990\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-Met Ryan Helsley signing with Orioles to become closer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ryan Helsley won\u2019t be in Queens come next season.<\/p>\n<p>Helsley, a former closer whom the Mets acquired at the trade deadline last season, signed a two-year contract worth $28 million with the Orioles, The Post\u2019s Jon Heyman <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/JonHeyman\/status\/1994868574507385055\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">confirmed Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The deal features an opt-out after the first season, and Helsley is expected to throw the ninth inning for the Orioles.<\/p>\n<p>Helsley, who was a closer for the Cardinals before his disastrous stint with the Mets, marks the second bullpen addition for Baltimore. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST<\/p>\n<p>Helsley tried to adjust his glove and hand positioning to hide his pitch-tipping, and he previously <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/30\/sports\/ryan-helsley-made-some-progress-solving-mets-pitch-tipping-issue\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told The Post<\/a> that despite experiencing some problems with the Cardinals, \u201cbut nothing to this extent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a pitcher sometimes you\u2019re gonna get got. That\u2019s just part of the game,\u201d Helsley said in August. \u201cBut when it\u2019s whole innings or multiple outings in a row, and guys are looking really comfortable and taking too many good swings, especially on good pitches, or just laying off good pitches that you throw, that\u2019s when the buzzers start going off, raising the red flags.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite trying to fix his pitch-tipping issues, Helsley could not replicate his success he had while playing for the Cardinals.<\/p>\n<p>Now he will get another chance with the Orioles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Ryan Helsley won\u2019t be in Queens come next season.
