Sen. Cory Booker has married his fianc\u00e9 Alexis Lewis in Washington, DC, less than three months after announcing their engagement<\/a> in an Instagram post.<\/p>\n

Only close family were present as the New Jersey Senator, 56, tied the knot on Saturday in an interfaith ceremony blessed by both a pastor and a rabbi \u2014 Lewis is Jewish and Booker Christian, according to the New York Times.<\/a><\/p>\n

The venue\u2019s location wasn\u2019t disclosed for privacy reasons.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the pair legally wed at the US District Court in Newark, where Booker rose to prominence as mayor \u2014 with their parents as witnesses.<\/p>\n

The couple celebrated afterward with Italian pastries and a vegan chocolate chip cookie dough cake to fit Booker\u2019s vegan diet.<\/p>\n

The pair were introduced in May 2024 by a mutual friend known for matchmaking, the Times reported.<\/p>\n

Ms Lewis, 38, who was living in LA at the time, went on a blind date with Booker while visiting family in DC.<\/p>\n

The date lasted more than five hours and at the end of it, Booker convinced Lewis to push back her flight so he could take her out again the following night, according to the Times.<\/p>\n

After an \u201ceven more magical\u201d second date, in which the pair had dinner at a Newark tapas restaurant and went to the Broadway musical \u201cSuffs,\u201d they ended the night with their first kiss outside the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Booker told the Times.<\/p>\n

The couple moved in together in April and fostered a dog, a shepherd mix named Cooke.<\/p>\n

The pair announced their engagement in September. corybooker\/instagram<\/p>\n

Booker proposed in Kauai, Hawaii, on Aug. 24, after a troupe of native musicians played Lewis\u2019 favorite song, \u201cDreamlover\u201d by Mariah Carey.<\/p>\n

As the song ended, Lewis hugged the singers and told them how she had always dreamed the song would be played at her wedding.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, honey, this is the song that\u2019s playing at your proposal,\u201d Booker said, before getting down on one knee, the Times reported.<\/p>\n

Lewis gushed about finding love with the second-term Democrat senator.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy girlfriends and I say, \u2018Change your flight, change your life,\u2019 because it\u2019s exactly what happened,\u201d Lewis told the Times.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter so many years on my own, I\u2019m not entirely sure I believed I would get married. But now, we\u2019ve found each other at this stage of our lives, after epic personal journeys. And that deserves celebration,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Booker, who has never married, was named as one of Town & Country magazine\u2019s \u201cTop 40 Bachelors\u201d in 2013.<\/p>\n

Lewis, a DC native who has a bachelor\u2019s degree from NYU and an MBA from Cornell, previously worked in the office of former LA mayor, Eric Garcetti.<\/p>\n
