Neighbors on the fourth and fifth floor of a Claremont building packed what was left of their apartments in plastic bags and suitcases on Sunday after a fire shuttered 13 homes. <\/p>\n
FDNY responded to the four-alarm fire at 1520 Sheridan Ave. Friday afternoon. It took 170 firefighters and EMS personnel two hours to place the flames under control.<\/p>\n
“Right now, we are going to a shelter until further notice. We don\u2019t know what will happen next,” said Margarita, a tenant on the fifth floor. <\/p>\n
The Department of Buildings issued a statement to News 12: “As a result of the partially collapsed roof, DOB has issued a Partial Vacate Order for the building impacting the entire G and H apartment lines, and one apartment on the J line.”<\/p>\n
The American Red Cross said it has registered 18 households for emergency assistance, including temporary lodging and financial assistance.<\/p>\n
