STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A 34-year-old man from Brooklyn was arrested for allegedly driving drunk with a child in his car on the Staten Island Expressway, authorities said<\/p>\n
Elijah Page, of St. Mark\u2019s Avenue, was apprehended on Nov. 27 around 11 p.m. on the New Jersey-bound Staten Island Expressway near the Goethals Bridge, according to the criminal complaint and New York State Police.<\/p>\n
State Police officers were patrolling westbound on the expressway when they pulled over a gray 2021 Honda sedan. Page attracted the attention of troopers by speeding at about 75 mph in a 50 mph zone and also tailgating, according to the criminal complaint and police. <\/p>\n
A trooper \u201cobserved the defendant to be in an intoxicated condition at the above date, time and locating in that he observed defendant to have a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on the defendant\u2019s breath and bloodshot and watery eyes,\u201d said the criminal complaint. <\/p>\n
A child was located unharmed in a car seat in the backseat. The child later was released to a family member, according to the police and the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Page said he was on his way home when he was apprehended in the traffic stop. He allegedly told the troopers that he drank beer. <\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t have much to drink, not too much,\u201d the criminal complaint quoted Page telling police. \u201cI can still drive, I\u2019m good to get [sic], I\u2019m fine.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cI didn\u2019t know you was gonna stop me. When I saw the lights, I pulled over. This is my first time, I\u2019m owning up to it, I\u2019m going with the flow.\u201d<\/p>\n
Page was placed into custody and transported to the NYPD\u2019s 120th Precinct in St. George for sobriety testing, where he was found to be over the legal limit of .08. His blood-alcohol level was .095, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Page was charged by with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the car, driving while intoxicated, and driving while ability impaired by the consumption of alcohol, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Page has pleaded not guilty to all charges, has been released on his own recognizance and is due back in state Criminal Court in St. George on Feb. 2, according to public records.<\/p>\n
