{"id":57852,"date":"2025-12-01T23:53:06","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T23:53:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/57852\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T23:53:06","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T23:53:06","slug":"watch-king-tides-highest-waves-of-the-year-in-manhattan-beach-on-saturday-daily-breeze","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/57852\/","title":{"rendered":"Watch king tides, highest waves of the year, in Manhattan Beach on Saturday \u2013 Daily Breeze"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brace for a chilly morning if you\u2019re going to head to the Manhattan Beach Pier on Saturday, Dec. 6, to see the highest tides of the year and help document <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailybreeze.com\/2024\/01\/13\/2024-king-tides-in-manhattan-beach-show-more-apparent-sea-level-rise\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ongoing sea level rise<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Roundhouse Aquarium will host the 2025 King Tide Watch event from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Manhattan Beach Pier, the aquarium announced recently.<\/p>\n<p>From the pier, attendees will get a direct vantage point to observe the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailybreeze.com\/2024\/12\/10\/witness-sea-level-rise-in-real-time-at-king-tide-watch-event-in-manhattan-beach\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">phenomenon that typically happens about twice each year<\/a>. King tides are the most visually dramatic high tides, which are created when the sun, moon and Earth all align.<\/p>\n<p>Local scientists, marine educators and climate activists will also be present at the watch event, according to a press release, which is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coastal.ca.gov\/kingtides\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">California Coastal Commission\u2019s King Tide Project<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>More than just something to marvel at, the King Tide Watch is a community science effort to provide a glimpse into the future. Participants will take and share photos to help document how rising sea levels impact the California coastline in real time.<\/p>\n<p>Scientists have long warned about rising sea levels along the California coast, and these extreme tides give a preview of what the coastlines could look like in the coming decades.<\/p>\n<p>If you go<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 King Tide Watch will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the base of the Manhattan Beach Pier, 2 Manhattan Beach Blvd., next to the lifeguard tower and bike path.
