STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Monsignor Farrell head coach Rocco Del Priore didn’t need to be reminded by a pesky reporter that the Lions have dropped nine straight to perennial power Iona Prep dating back to the 2017 season.

The fourth-year head coach had written down all the painful losses on a whiteboard in the office of his Great Kills home late last week in preparation for Friday’s 7 p.m. contest in New Rochelle vs. the unbeaten Gaels (6-0 overall and 4-0 in the league), the state’s No. 1 ranked team (according to MaxPreps), with the CHSFL’s AAA top seed on the line.
