STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 New York City residents will experience mostly rain Tuesday as a coastal storm passes through the region.<\/p>\n
Rain started between 8 and 10 a.m. on Tuesday, and was set to continue through the evening. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will climb to the upper 30s to lower 40s across the New York City metro area, keeping precipitation as rain rather than snow. Winds will increase Tuesday afternoon and night, with northwest winds 15-25 mph and gusts up to 35 mph possible.<\/p>\n
The National Weather Service warns that poor drainage flooding is possible with, and an inch to 1.5 inches of precipitation expected through this evening, though rainfall rates should remain below a half inch per hour.<\/p>\n
Temperatures will drop below freezing Tuesday night, potentially causing refreezing of standing water. Residents should use caution on untreated surfaces late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
Wednesday will bring dry conditions with high temperatures in the upper 30s to lower 40s, about 10 degrees below normal. The National Weather Service indicates winds will diminish by midday Wednesday as the pressure gradient relaxes.<\/p>\n
Thursday will remain dry with similar temperatures before a cold front passes through the area in the afternoon. Friday will be very cold with highs only reaching the mid-30s in the New York City metro area.<\/p>\n
The extended forecast shows another weather system possibly affecting the region late Friday night into Saturday morning, with temperatures continuing below normal into early next week.
