New York City<\/a> developments designed by teams including SHoP Architects<\/a>, HKS<\/a> and Perkins Eastman<\/a> have been recommended to receive casino licenses, beating out a BIG<\/a> project and others.<\/p>\n

At a meeting yesterday, the Gaming Facility Location Board<\/a> recommended that two casino projects in Queens<\/a> and one in the Bronx<\/a> receive licenses from the Gaming Commission<\/a>, which is set to make a final determinations later this month.<\/p>\n

The projects recommended by the Board are Hard Rock Metropolitan Park<\/a> by SHoP Architects<\/a> and Field Operations<\/a> in Queens, Resorts World New York City<\/a> by Perkins Eastman<\/a> also in Queens, and Bally’s Bronx Casino<\/a> by HKS<\/a> and Gensler<\/a> in the Bronx.<\/p>\n

The three projects have been whittled down from a handful of developments submitted earlier this year,\u00a0which included developments by BIG and KPF<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It’s unclear if the rejected proposals will continue development without casino licenses, as some, like BIG’s Freedom Plaza project<\/a>, include multiple skyscrapers and other attractions.<\/p>\n

The three recommended projects will now move forward for final selection and approvals by New York state’s Gaming Commission, which is set to decide by December 31.<\/p>\n

“We will know ASAP,” the Commission told Dezeen.<\/p>\n

The Commission still needs to review each project<\/a> for qualities such as its revenue and environmental impact, “diversity framework,” and the potential for job creation.<\/p>\n

The selection process began in earnest in 2022, when a state budget was released<\/a> that approved three casino licenses to be awarded “downstate”. A following vote in 2013 by New Yorkers<\/a> expanded casino rights to New York City.<\/p>\n

Currently, “racinos” already exist in New York City, which combine horse racing and betting and gambling under limited ability. The three awarded licenses include the ability to have full casino operation, which includes “live” table games.<\/p>\n
