According to the department\u2019s numbers, there were 652 shootings with 812 victims in the five boroughs through the first 11 months of the year, a new all-time low \u2014\u00a0less than\u00a0the 696 shootings with 828 victims recorded over the same span in 2018.<\/p>\n

The 16 murders last month \u2014 a 46.6% dip over November 2024 \u2014 tied the 2018 number for the lowest number of monthly homicides in the city, with no murders in Queens or Staten Island last month.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, police said subway crime, a long running source of concern for New Yorkers, continues to dip.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was the safest July, August, September, October and November in recorded history,\u201d cops said.<\/p>\n

There were 167 transit crimes reported last month, down from 222 over November of last year, a nearly 25% decline \u2014 for the safest November on the subways in recorded history, the department said.<\/p>\n
With the Holiday Season upon us, police also touted a drop in retail thefts, with 4,221 incidents last month compared to 5,285 over the same period last year, for a 20% dip.<\/p>\n
The NYPD said burglary, robbery, theft and grand larceny incidents also went down month-over-month.<\/p>\n
The department credited a series of targeted-policing initiatives, including the Fall Violence Reduction Plan, which deployed as many as 1,800 uniformed cops deployed to foot patrols at 54 designated zones, including hotspots like housing projects and vulnerable subway stations. <\/p>\n
The city has also launched quality of life and gang-busting units throughout the city. <\/p>\n
\u201cThese strategies we put in place have made the city safer,\u201d Adams said in a statement. \u201cWhen we invest in the brave men and women of the NYPD and the strategies to ensure success, our city is safer and feels safer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The question is will Mamdani stay on track when he takes over.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen crime is low, there is much wider latitude for a New York City mayor to focus on and enact other parts of their agenda,\u201d Alyssa Cass, a partner with Slingshot Strategies, told The Post. \u201cLow crime is a green light to advance the more ambitious parts of his agenda.\u201d<\/p>\n
One former Big Apple top cop agreed.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy advice to Mamdani is leave the NYPD alone,\u201d former NYPD Commissioner William Bratton said. \u201cFocus instead on your rent control, mental health and free buses. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe stats show that Jessie Tisch\u2019s leadership over the past year is showing results,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s going to be a challenge for Mamdani to make sure this positive trend continues. We\u2019ll have to wait and see.\u201d<\/p>\n
