STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Starting on Monday, Dec. 8, the St. George route on the NYC Ferry system will connect Staten Island and Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

The Economic Development Corporation \u2014 which runs the NYC Ferry \u2014 officially announced it would connect the two boroughs by ferry in November<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new Staten Island route will operate in two legs. The first will run to western Manhattan, with stops at Battery Park City and Midtown West at Pier 79.<\/p>\n

The new second leg will run between the existing fast ferry stops in St. George and the American Veterans Memorial Pier at 69th Street in Bay Ridge.<\/p>\n

After Bay Ridge, the route will continue to the Atlantic Avenue stop at Brooklyn Bridge Park and finally Wall Street at Pier 11 in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

According to a schedule posted on the NYC Ferry site<\/a>, boats on the St. George route will run approximately every 37 minutes during peak hours.<\/p>\n

Trips will also be scheduled around 50 minutes apart during non-peak hours.<\/p>\n

Currently, the St. George line runs every 28 minutes during peak hours and every 41 minutes during off-peak hours.<\/p>\n

While there will be more time between trips, the new schedule shows it will only take around 11 minutes to get from Staten Island to Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

Tickets will cost $4.50 per one-way trip.<\/a> Riders can also purchase a 10-trip pass for $29 or an unlimited two-day ticket for $15.<\/p>\n

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time on the NYC Ferry App, or at vending machines located at NYC Ferry stops.<\/p>\n

The ferry connection to Brooklyn actually re-establishes ferry service between St. George and Bay Ridge<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The old 69th Street ferry, dubbed \u201cThe Short Way to New Jersey,\u201d began carrying passengers between St. George and 69th Street in Bay Ridge on July 4, 1912.<\/p>\n
