{"id":6094,"date":"2025-10-17T08:19:15","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T08:19:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/6094\/"},"modified":"2025-10-17T08:19:15","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T08:19:15","slug":"nyc-to-host-several-no-kings-protests-this-weekend-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/6094\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC to host several \u2018No Kings\u2019 protests this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Demonstrators are set to take to the streets in the city and across the world on Saturday for another round of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe expect a million people to be marching with us to demand hands off New York City,\u201d said Donna Lieberman, the executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union.<\/p>\n<p>What You Need To Know<\/p>\n<p>Demonstrators will take to the streets in the city and across the world on Saturday for another round of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d protests<br \/>\n<br \/>Leaders of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d coalition, which is organizing the nationwide protest are hoping to build on the momentum from the global \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest held on President Donald Trump\u2019s birthday in June in opposition to many of his administration\u2019s policies, including immigration, health care, the environment, gun control and voting rights<br \/>\n<br \/>More than 2,000 protests are expected in cities and towns across the country, including several in every borough of the city<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe mission, really, in general is to save democracy,\u201d Marian Downs of the Northeast Queens Indivisible group said.<\/p>\n<p>Leaders of the \u201cNo Kings\u201d coalition, which is organizing the nationwide protest are hoping to build on the momentum from the global \u201cNo Kings\u201d protest held on President Donald Trump\u2019s birthday in June in opposition to many of his administration\u2019s policies, including immigration, health care, the environment, gun control and voting rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFreedom of speech, the press and assembly,\u201d Deidre Schifeling, the chief political and advocacy officer of the ACLU, said. \u201c[These] rights are critical to our free society.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet me be clear: President Trump and his allies are abusing their powers and attempting to scare their own citizens away from exercising our rights and freedoms,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are faith leaders, teachers, veterans, small business owners who are being impacted by extreme and dubious \u2014 dare I say tariffs,\u201d Sarah Parker, 50\/50 national coordinator and executive director of Voices of Florida, said. \u201cThese are people who are seeing their friends and family members being kidnapped off of the streets.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>More than 2000 protests are expected in cities and towns across the country, including several in every borough of the city. Lieberman and the New York Civil Liberties Union are helping to organize a protest in Times Square.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans don\u2019t believe in treating people as second-class citizens,\u201d Lieberman said. \u201cThey don\u2019t believe in delegating women to second-class citizenship or Black people or brown people. Americans really do deep down believe in equal rights for all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Northeast Queens Indivisible group has been busy recruiting volunteers to prepare for a protest there.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you look at dictatorships throughout history, there are people who are just comfortable with I\u2019m just following this person and whatever they say,\u201d Joanna Bueckert-Chan, a member of the Northeast Queens Indivisible group, said. \u201cBut that is not America and what it was founded on.
