Photo: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/47353092@N00\/3482053519\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AJ Cann<\/a>, Creative Commons, some rights reserved<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"fullscreen\" href=\"https:\/\/www.northcountrypublicradio.org\/news\/story\/52718\/20251204\/this-year-s-flu-is-spreading-across-new-york-officials-say-get-the-vaccine\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dec 04, 2025 \u2014 <\/p>\n<p>State health officials say this year&#8217;s strain of the flu is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.ny.gov\/press\/releases\/2025\/2025-12-02_flu_prevalent.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">&#8220;prevalent&#8221;<\/a> across New York now and they urge people to get the flu vaccine ahead of the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>The latest state Department of Health data shows there are 17,783 positive flu cases statewide. The number of influenza-related hospitalizations nearly doubled to 413.<\/p>\n<p>The state is requiring health care workers who haven&#8217;t yet gotten the influenza vaccine to wear a mask in areas where patients and residents are present.<\/p>\n<p>This week is National Influenza Vaccination Week. Health officials say it&#8217;s not too late to get the shot. Even when the vaccine does not prevent infection, it can help protect against serious complications, including hospitalization and death.
