{"id":61463,"date":"2025-12-05T03:29:07","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T03:29:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/61463\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T03:29:07","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T03:29:07","slug":"12-starbucks-strikers-arrested-outside-empire-state-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/61463\/","title":{"rendered":"12 Starbucks strikers arrested outside Empire State Building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A dozen <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/28\/business\/starbucks-workers-union-escalates-strike-on-black-friday\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Starbucks strikers<\/a> were arrested at a picket line outside the coffee company\u2019s Midtown corporate headquarters Thursday, according to authorities.<\/p>\n<p>Police responded to the picket line of roughly 80 Starbucks workers\u2019 union strikers outside the Empire State Building around 1:22 p.m., according to the NYPD. <\/p>\n<p>After repeated commands for the strikers to remove themselves from blocking the doorway, cops arrested 12 people \u2014 6 men, and 6 women \u2014 for disorderly conduct, according to cops and sources. <\/p>\n<p>A dozen Starbucks strikers were arrested at a picket line outside the coffee company\u2019s Midtown NYC corporate headquarters in the Empire State Building. x\/FightForAUnion<\/p>\n<p>The union escalated its indefinite strike on Friday to more than 120 stores and 85 cities, demanding higher pay and staffing levels at the coffee chain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnion baristas are taking action to remind Starbucks executives that wherever Starbucks is, baristas\u2019 picket lines will be there too until the company finalizes a fair contract and ends its union busting,\u201d Starbucks Workers United <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SBWorkersUnited\/status\/1996642957823524943\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">posted on X.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The walkout, set to be the longest strike in Starbucks\u2019 history, began on its Red Cup Day on Nov. 13.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and Sen. Bernie Sanders<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/12\/01\/us-news\/zohran-mamdani-bernie-sanders-join-striking-starbucks-workers-as-city-approves-39m-deal\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> joined the striking workers in Brooklyn on Monday. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause all of us are united in the belief that we must build in New York where every worker can live a life of decency,\u201d Mamdani said from a picket line outside a Gowanus Starbucks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The walkout is set to be the longest in Starbucks\u2019 history.
