STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Starting next week, the NYC Ferry will reconnect Staten Island to Brooklyn.<\/p>\n

The connection comes after the New York City Economic Development Corporation \u2014 which runs the NYC Ferry \u2014 announced it was moving forward with route changes to the system<\/a>, including expanding service from St. George to Bay Ridge.<\/p>\n

The existing St. George route on the NYC Ferry is effectively doubling in size and will operate in two segments.<\/p>\n

The first will run to western Manhattan, with stops at Battery Park City and Midtown West at Pier 79.<\/p>\n

The new second leg will run between the existing fast ferry stops in St. George and the American Veterans Memorial Pier at 69th Street in Bay Ridge.<\/a><\/p>\n

After Bay Ridge, the route will continue to the Atlantic Avenue stop at Brooklyn Bridge Park and finally Wall Street at Pier 11 in Manhattan.<\/p>\n

According to a schedule posted on the NYC Ferry site<\/a>, boats on the St. George route will begin running approximately every 37 minutes during peak hours.<\/p>\n

Trips will also be scheduled around 50 minutes apart during non-peak hours.<\/p>\n

On weekdays, ferries will start running around 6 a.m. in both directions.<\/p>\n

Service will end after 9:40 p.m. for boats to Brooklyn and Wall Street. Boats to the west side will stop running after 9:30 p.m. <\/p>\n

Weekend service starts around 9 a.m. in both directions. Evening service to Brooklyn and Wall Street ends after 9 p.m. Service to Midtown West ends after 9:22 p.m.<\/p>\n

According to the new schedule, trips between Staten Island and Bay Ridge should only take around 11 minutes. <\/p>\n

Currently, the St. George route runs every 28 minutes during peak hours and every 41 minutes during off-peak hours. The current route only serves the <\/p>\n

Tickets will cost $4.50 per one-way trip.<\/a> Riders can also purchase a 10-trip pass for $29 or an unlimited two-day ticket for $15.<\/p>\n
