{"id":62332,"date":"2025-12-05T23:30:08","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T23:30:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/62332\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T23:30:08","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T23:30:08","slug":"nyc-comptroller-brad-lander-still-railing-against-trump-admin-as-he-pleads-to-blocking-ice-operations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/62332\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC Comptroller Brad Lander still railing against Trump admin as he pleads to blocking ICE operations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>City Comptroller <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/19\/us-news\/elected-officials-among-dozens-of-protesters-arrested-at-a-manhattan-immigration-holding-facility\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brad Lander<\/a> pleaded not guilty Friday to charges of blocking ICE operations in an elevator bank at 26 Federal Plaza in a grandstanding play against the Trump administration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lander was hit with the charge \u2014 a class C federal misdemeanor \u2014 on September 18th, 2025, at the federal building on the 10th floor, where the immigration court is held.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI pleaded not guilty to the charge, because the crime was not us sitting on the floor of the 10th floor elevator lobby. The crime is what ICE agents are doing on the other side of the 10th floor,\u201d Lander railed to reporters outside of New York\u2019s Southern District federal court immediately following his arraignment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37855924\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/brad-lander-federal-court-manhattan-115668804.jpg\" alt=\"Brad Lander speaking outside Federal Court in Manhattan after being arrested at 26 Federal Plaza outside Immigration Court.\" class=\"wp-image-37855924\"  \/>The government opted to drop the possibility of Imprisonment against the lame-duck comptroller. William Farrington<\/p>\n<p>The comptroller, who is wrapping up his tenure as the City\u2019s CFO, faced up to 30 days in prison for his alleged crime \u2013 but the government stated Friday they would not seek incarceration.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lander was arrested along with a slew of other lawmakers who opted to pause their cases for 6 to 12 months so as not to interfere with the legislative session. The lame-duck controller strayed from the pack and opted to pursue his charges immediately.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"37855922\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/new-york-city-comptroller-brad-116569699.jpg\" alt=\"New York City Comptroller Brad Lander being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and FBI agents outside federal immigration court.\" class=\"wp-image-37855922\"  \/>Lander was arrested on September 18th for impeding ICE operations at 26 Federal plaza  AP<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were not committing the crime that we were charged with and I think it\u2019s critical to insist that we\u2019re not going to allow 26 Federal to become normalized,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Lander reiterated his \u201cvery serious\u201d consideration to run for New York\u2019s 10th congressional district next year following the proceeding.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump is stealing from New York City\u2019s bank account, I think people are looking for leaders who will put their bodies on the line,\u201d he crowed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The government will have two weeks to submit evidence for the trial which will likely take place in the spring of next year.
