STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 There were five reported vehicle thefts during the week of Nov. 24 through 30, according to NYPD data.<\/a><\/p>\n

Despite the number, the amount of automobile thefts reported in the borough this year has gone down. Car thefts reported through late November dropped 30% (220 vs. 314) when compared to the same period in 2024, according to the NYPD\u2019s latest CompStat figures. <\/p>\n

According to the database, 2021 was the last time car thefts on the borough were this low. The database indicates that five cars were stolen on Staten Island between Nov. 24 and 30 \u2014 the most recent week for which statistics are available.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a look at those incidents:<\/p>\n

On Nov. 24 at 9 p.m., a car theft was reported at Crabtree Avenue and Turner Street in Charleston.On Nov. 25 at 7 p.m., a car theft occurred at Oakville and Soren street in Meiers Corners.On Nov. 27 at 8 a.m., a car theft was reported at Gregory Lane and Arielle Lane in New Springville. Later that same day at 8 p.m., another car theft was reported at Tillman Street and Laguardia Avenue in Castleton Corners.On Nov. 29 at 6 a.m., a car theft was reported at Marble Street and Byrne Avenue in Westerleigh.<\/p>\n

Starting at the end of summer 2023, the NYPD enacted a tactical shift aimed at curbing car thefts.
