STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Petrides wrestling team won its second match of the season Friday, pinning Leon Goldstein of Brooklyn, 57-18, in a PSAL 1A Brooklyn\/Staten Island division encounter.<\/p>\n
The Panthers were never in danger as they jumped out to leads of 11-0, 21-6 and 51-12. <\/p>\n
Petrides\u2019 lone loss on the mat occurred at 138 pounds when sophomore Dexter Lincoln was injured during his bout and was unable to continue. <\/p>\n
Coach Dave Olah was happy with the win and the team\u2019s 2-0 start in league play, but said there is a lot of work ahead as the team gets deeper in the schedule.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still looking to increase our numbers and get the guys that were on the football team back into wrestling shape and up to speed,\u201d Olah said. \u201cWe are going to have to rely on some veterans like Rocky (Molinare), Julian (Orellana), Marco (Michielli) and Robert (Alincaj) to help carry us until we are at full strength. We want to be hitting on all cylinders come mid-January as we get ready to head into the postseason. <\/p>\n
The Panthers will compete on Saturday at the Cardozo Invitational in Queens before returning home Tuesday at 5 p.m. when they wrestle Grand Street Campus. <\/p>\n
