STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 In January, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will begin retiring the MetroCard<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The payment cards will still be accepted, but the transportation agency will phase them out over the course of 2026.<\/p>\n

Commuters are being advised to either spend down the value on MetroCards or transfer remaining money to an OMNY card. <\/p>\n

To help with the transition, the MTA has announced several places<\/a> where Staten Islanders can refill OMNY cards, apply to the reduced fare program<\/a>, or transfer their remaining MetroCard balances.<\/p>\n

MTA mobile sales vehicles will be at the following locations on Staten Island between Dec. 9 and Dec. 23:<\/p>\n

Tuesday, Dec. 9<\/p>\n

10 a.m. to noon in New Springville at Yukon Avenue, near the Yukon Bus Depot. <\/p>\n

1 to 3 p.m. in Castleton Corners at Victory Boulevard, off Manor Road.<\/p>\n

Monday, Dec. 15<\/p>\n

10 a.m. to noon in New Dorp at Hylan Boulevard and Tysens Lane.<\/p>\n

1 to 3 p.m. in New Dorp at Hylan Plaza, near Ebbitts Street and Hylan Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Tuesday, Dec. 23<\/p>\n

10 a.m. to noon in New Springville at Yukon Avenue, near the Yukon Bus Depot. <\/p>\n

1 to 3 p.m. in Castleton Corners at Victory Boulevard, off Manor Road.<\/p>\n

Commuters can also use the MTA\u2019s customer service centers to transfer card balances. <\/p>\n

Of the 16 customer service centers across New York City, only one is on Staten Island.<\/p>\n
