A 68-year-old grandfather was mowed down by a wrong-way moped driver as he crossed at a Queens intersection \u2014 just days before he was to bring his daughter home for Christmas, his family told The Post.<\/p>\n
Trevor Lloyd Samuels, a former correction officer from the island of Jamaica, was walking in the crosswalk on 93rd Avenue shortly after 6:30 p.m. Friday when he was struck and killed by the two-wheeled menace, a spokesperson for the NYPD said Sunday.<\/p>\n
The tragedy left his family devastated.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen we heard a knock, we thought it was him coming home, I was like, \u2018Why is he knocking? He has keys,’\u201d the dead man\u2019s oldest daughter, Kievette Samuels, 45, said Sunday. \u201cWhen I opened the door, I saw the uniform, I was like, \u2018Oh no\u2019. That\u2019s when panic mode set in.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey said he was involved in an accident, and he died, and I\u2019m like \u2018He what?\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cI was like, \u2018No, you\u2019re joking.\u2019 I asked them like five times.\u201d<\/p>\n
Police said the driver of the moped, 26-year-old Yunio Buleje Rodriguez, also suffered minor injuries and remained at the scene until cops arrived.<\/p>\n

Rodriguez was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation, with an investigation still underway.<\/p>\n
Samuels, who moved to the Big Apple about 20 years ago, was scheduled to fly to Jamaica on Tuesday to bring his youngest daughter \u2014 who is 17 \u2014 back to Queens for the holidays, according to his family.<\/p>\n
Now, Kievette Samuels, the oldest of five siblings, said she doesn\u2019t believe her family can celebrate Christmas without the family\u2019s beloved patriarch there for the festivities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have the Christmas tree, it\u2019s in the box,\u201d she said. \u201cI said to my daughter yesterday, I\u2019m not going to even take it out of the box. I\u2019m not feeling the spirit, I\u2019m not seeing it.\u00a0And his room is right in the living room where I would put the tree too.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said the tragedy has been hardest on her daughter, who was particularly close to Samuels.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy daughter keeps thinking it\u2019s him coming through the door,\u201d she said. \u201cHe was active in his grandchildren\u2019s lives. He came to their graduations, he played his part. He\u2019s a \u2018girl-dad,\u2019 and it\u2019s translated down to the grandchildren.\u201d<\/p>\n
She also noted that Rodriguez, the moped driver, is even younger than her oldest son. <\/p>\n
\u201cBasically he could\u2019ve been my child,\u201d she said. \u201cSo for me to have hate? No, no. I\u2019m just mad that he did that.
