Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg announced the sentencing of a Bronx man who fatally shot a deli clerk in Manhattan.<\/p>\n
Kimond Cyrus, 42, will serve 24 years to life behind bars for killing Sueng Chul Choi, 67, inside an Upper East Side deli in March 2023.<\/p>\n
Cyrus pleaded guilty to murder and criminal possession of a weapon in October. He admitted to changing into a hazmat suit inside a Bronx building before riding a moped into Manhattan.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors say Cyrus approached a customer, displayed a firearm and demanded money before turning his attention to Choi, who was behind the counter.<\/p>\n
Cyrus demanded that Choi go to the back of the deli, where he shot him in the head moments later.<\/p>\n
Police arrested Cyrus in the Bronx a few days later.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors say Cyrus committed three other gunpoint robberies matching a similar narrative across other boroughs.<\/p>\n
“Kimond Cyrus was sentenced to a significant state prison term for the horrifying shooting of Sueng Chul Choi as he was working his late-night shift,” said Bragg. “Cyrus engaged in escalating turned-deadly gun violence \u2013 committing a gunpoint robbery before brazenly ending Mr. Choi’s life.
