MANHATTAN \u2014 Staten Island Academy earned its third consecutive ACIS road victory on Tuesday night as it defeated Leman, 76-63. <\/p>\n
The Tigers were led in scoring by Gabe Moschella, who connected on four three-pointers on his way to a career-high 25-point effort and Danny Nowak, who poured in 24 points. <\/p>\n
A strong first quarter by the visitors saw the Tigers drain four three-pointers (three by Moschella, one by Nowak) as crisp ball movement created a number of open looks for SIA. Moschella poured in 11 points during the opening eight minutes, while Nowak added seven before exploding for 10 in the second period.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was much happier with how we shared the ball today,\u201d Tigers head coach Mike Mazella, observed. \u201cYesterday (against Berkeley Carroll) we forced too many shots, but today, we were doing a better job of spacing the floor, getting out on the break and looking for each other.\u201d <\/p>\n
Moschella and Nowak continued to carry the load for the Tigers in the third quarter, combining for another 12 points as the visitors\u2019 lead grew to as many as 20. <\/p>\n
Leman, however, would fight back and cut the lead to single digits, but each time the Bulls edged closer, the Tigers had an answer. Second-half three-pointers by Ayden Howe, Mike Belkin and Lorenzo Malpeso helped keep Leman at bay, and in the fourth quarter, Luke DeVito helped put the game away by collecting a number of loose balls and offensive rebounds, leading to six made free throws for the senior swingman. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are still a work in progress,\u201d Mazella noted, \u201cbut the ceiling for this team is very high. We have a number of areas to clean up and still need more consistency in our play, and we know we are going to get everyone\u2019s best shot moving forward.\u201d<\/p>\n
The undefeated Tigers (5-0 overall, 3-0 ACIS) return to action on Thursday when they host rival Packer Collegiate in an ACIS encounter. <\/p>\n
Xavier 50, Farrell 43<\/p>\n
MANHATTAN \u2014 JJ Yates (three treys) tossed in a season-high 22 points, but the Lions dropped the CHSAA A division decision to the host Knights on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
In addition to Yates, who finished with three three-pointers, Farrell (0-4) received offensive contributions from Matt Hanley (12 points) and Matt Scalisi (seven points).<\/p>\n
Guard Peter Franchock finished with a team-high 18 points thanks to three treys and by connecting on 5 of 8 free-throw attempts. Aleksandar Konacevic (two treys) and Timothy Leahy added 12 and nine points, respectively, for the 3-0 Knights (1-0 league).<\/p>\n
Farrell trailed 24-19 at halftime, but tightened the clamps defensively in the third quarter to gain momentum. With head coach Danny Fisher\u2019s team holding the Knights to just seven points, Yates poured in 10 markers by himself \u2014 including a trey and conventional three-point play \u2014 as the Lions forged a 31-31 tie heading into the final eight minutes.<\/p>\n
But despite the play of the 6-foot-6 Hanley in the fourth quarter (seven points), Franchock tallied 10 (two treys) and the 6-8 Konacevic chipped in five points to help the Knights squeeze out the victory.<\/p>\n
Salesian 54, Moore 37<\/p>\n
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. \u2014 The visiting Mavericks put themselves in a double-digit hole at halftime and never recovered as they dropped the CHSAA A division decision to the undefeated Eagles (4-0) on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Forward Alexander Raphael led Moore\u2019s attack with 11 points while guards Nick DeGrado and Matt Gibbons split 14 markers for the 1-3 Mavericks.<\/p>\n
Jonathan Lagos led Salesian with a game-high 23 points, including a pair of treys. Kevaughn Mitchell (10 points) and Joseph Secola (nine points) also chipped in for the Eagles, who improved to 3-0 in league play.<\/p>\n
The Mavs only trailed 13-10 after one period, but Lagos tallied nine second-quarter points and Secola added a three-point play as the hosts took a 26-16 lead into the lockers. <\/p>\n
Lagos, Mark Stiler and Mitchell then teamed for 14 markers in the fourth as the Eagles built a 44-27 advantage and never looked back.<\/p>\n

Canarsie 43, Susan Wagner 39<\/p>\n
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 Kyle Kyee scored a game-high 20 points, but the Falcons dropped the PSAL 1A Brooklyn II division contest to the visiting Wolfpack in Sea View.<\/p>\n
Dylan Ameneiros added seven points for the Falcons, who dropped to 0-3 in division play. <\/p>\n
Jeffrey Waterman (12 points) and Blessed Eluki (10 points) paced Canarsie\u2019s offensive attack.<\/p>\n
Thanks in part to the hot perimeter shooting of Kyee (15 points, four three-pointers), the Falcons owned a 19-18 lead at intermission. <\/p>\n
The hosts still had a one-point lead (31-30) entering the final period, but Eluki scored four points and Tylaire Fletcher added a trey as the Wolfpack outscored SW 13-8 in the final 8:00 to pull out the victory.<\/p>\n
SIA 63, Leman 52<\/p>\n
MANHATTAN \u2014 The Tigers, trailing by six entering the fourth quarter, exploded for 26 points in the final eight minutes to come away with the ACIS road victory. <\/p>\n
SIA was led in scoring by Nathan Wildrick (18 points, two three-pointers) and Patrick Sheehan (17 points, three three-pointers). Kenneth Pannell added 14, including two three-pointers.<\/p>\n
The short-handed Tigers had to navigate some serious foul trouble, but once they were able to get to the fourth quarter and establish some full-court defensive pressure, they were able to take advantage of a number of Leman turnovers. Sheehan connected for three long-range treys and 11 total points in the period and Pannell added two treys as part of his nine-point fourth-quarter effort. <\/p>\n
