STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. \u2014 A fresh face is coming into power in New York City in January after Zohran Mamdani cinched the mayor\u2019s race on Election Day. <\/p>\n

But how do Staten Island Gen Zers feel about that? <\/p>\n

Mamdani wasn\u2019t a favorite for Staten Islanders in the mayoral election. In fact, Staten Island voted overwhelmingly for Independent candidate Andrew Cuomo with 82,000 votes.<\/p>\n

Mamdani slid into second place<\/a> with Staten Island voters at 33,000 votes, topping topping Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa at 31,000 votes. <\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s focus on the city\u2019s affordability and housing crises appealed to many Generation Zers, who are people born between 1997 and 2012. <\/p>\n

The boroughs are notoriously expensive to live in, forcing many Gen Zers to scrape by paycheck to paycheck or return home to live with their family, which isn\u2019t always a viable option. <\/p>\n

Mamdani\u2019s vision of an affordable New York City includes free buses, rent controlled apartments, universal childcare, and low-cost grocery stores.<\/p>\n

The Advance\/SILive.com wants to know what Gen Zers think of Mamdani. <\/p>\n
