STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Curtis, behind Sanaya Frederick\u2019s 21 points and eight rebounds, won the battle of 3-0 teams in the PSAL 4A Staten Island division with a 69-42 victory over visiting Susan Wagner on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Alina Stardobunko added 16 points, three steals and four rebounds for the winners. <\/p>\n
\u201cEach practice and each game the girls are gaining more confidence in themselves and each other,\u201d said Curtis head coach Talia Sutton. \u201cTonight\u2019s effort was a result of team defense and early success in our full-court press. <\/p>\n
\u201cJaniya Thomas played really strong defense against Casey McKinney and I believe that gave the team the energy we needed to compete. Our defense influenced our offense, which is exactly what we strive to do every game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thomas contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe played excellent post defense and did a lot more of the little things on defense that do not necessarily come up on the stat sheet,\u201d said Sutton. <\/p>\n
The Warriors play at Thurgood Marshall on Saturday. <\/p>\n

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Grace Anderson led all scorers with 31 points to go along with 10 rebounds, five steals and six assists as the Pirates won their home opener on Wednesday in a non-league game. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe came to play tonight,\u201d said Tottenville head coach Jessica Althoff of Anderson. \u201cGrace works so hard and wants it and when she\u2019s on she\u2019s hard to beat.\u201d<\/p>\n
Emily Salafia (five steals) and Brianna Ardolic combined for 16 points in game the Pirates led 34-30 at the half.<\/p>\n
The Tots outscored Holy Cross, 12-7, in the third quarter to begin to pull away. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a great win for us. Holy Cross is a great team, they are quick, strong and move the ball well,\u201d said Althoff. \u201cDefensively, we played hard, and our energy was there tonight. We\u2019ve been working a lot on energy and intensity while they play so I was happy to see they brought it with them tonight. We are still a work in progress, and I still would like to see more consistency from them overall, but our season has only just begun.\u201d<\/p>\n

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The Seagulls beat their Brooklyn opponent for the second time in as many days in a PSAL 3A Brooklyn\/Staten Island division game on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Seagulls, who led 14-8 at the half, improved to 4-0 in the division.<\/p>\n
Madisyn Chen paced the winners with 11 points, while Eva Paraskevadis added 10 points.<\/p>\n
